Year Three ‘drought’ indicators: Ringwidth C12/C13 carbon isotope ratiopsindicative of stomatal closure O16/O18 oxygen isotope ratios indicative of stomatal closure + ocean/terrestrial origin of rainfall
Empirical data: research by Aster Gebrekirstos c.s. showed intra-annual variation in O16/O18 ratio in growth rings in the Sa- hel, indicative of ‘short cycle’ rain in 2nd part of of growing season
