We now have three nurses on our day shift and two and a half (a very important half) on the evening shift. Of course, we also have a nurse on duty at night; either Francis Williams or Jonathan Mugaboo. Francis has been here 6 years and Jonathan 5 years. Both gentlemen said that when an emergency occurs at night, they are grateful to be able to intercede and provide comfort to our residents. Our residents and families have shared many testimonials about our nursing staff. We are so blessed that 90% of our nurses have been here well over five years. Our nurses collectively have 200 years of nursing experience! Our nurse’s goal is to insure your healthcare needs are being met. If you experience any unusual symptoms, simply talk to your nurse. Our nurses are here around the clock to assess your symptoms and intercede, if necessary, by phoning your physician. Stephanie Balitaan, who oversees the Nursing Team, has been here for over 7 years; and soon she will graduate as a Nurse Practitioner! Barb Bruce, RN, has been serving our residents for over 9 years. “The seniors are charming and a delight; I enjoy seeing the kindness they demonstrate to one another.” Ginny Giovacchini, RN, Maria Paquit, RN, and Vanessa Abrams, RN, have been Belmont Village nurses for several years; they agreed that our residents teach them on a daily basis and help them to find humor in these everyday moments. Roxie Bueschel, RN, recently retired; Roxie was a very caring nurse who worked with our residents for 9 years. Aneta Koleta and Razel Himmelspach are both approaching their 5-year anniversary. Aneta told me, “Our seniors have a lifetime of knowledge; we learn so much from them!” Vivian Maranon just celebrated her 1-year anniversary with us. Vivian said, “Our seniors are like my grandparents; they are family!” (Continued on Page 6)

Dear Friends,As we begin the cold and flu

season, I am so grateful for ourteam of nurses. We now havethree nurses on our day shift andtwo and a half (a very importanthalf) on the evening shift. Ofcourse, we also have a nurse onduty at night; either FrancisWilliams or Jonathan Mugaboo.Francis has been here 6 years andJonathan 5 years. Circle of FriendsWe have continued to “grow”

our Circle of Friends programbeyond the daily scheduledactivities to include timesthroughout the month where allthe circles get together for a largergroup activity. On Mondayafternoons we conduct singalongs, trivia games, craft projects,etc. One time per month, we willconduct a dancercize class with allof the groups. Also, we areoffering an art therapy class on aquarterly basis. Here you see oneof the most recent art therapyclasses where we utilized cutoutsfrom magazines in an effort tocreate “rainbow collages.”-Christine

Neighborhood NewsThe neighborhood is preparing

for the upcoming annualNeighborhood Barbeque whichwill take place mid-September. Asin past years, we haveentertainment and will hopefullybe able to enjoy a beautifulget-together outside in thecourtyard. Additionally, wecontinue to receive weekly visitsfrom Heather and her CertifiedTherapy Dog, Carter. The residentsin the Neighborhood get soexcited whenever they see him.Here is Blondie sharing somequality time with our “littlefriend.”

July Employee of the MonthThe July Employee of the Month is Elma,

who has been with us a short time. She hasstepped up to the plate to hit a home run. Elma,who was initially hired as a housekeeper, isthorough and efficient! In certain situations,Elma has filled in as an activity assistant and aprivate pal. She has demonstrated cheerfulnessand positive energy. In addition, we have givenElma last minute special projects. Elma has awonderful sense of humor, a great smile, and isa pleasure to be around. Say hello to our newestEmployee of the Month....Elma!!

And They’re Off........to Arlington Park Racetrack!

Our residents enjoyed a day at theraces. We began our journey witha delicious picnic lunch. Then wewent over the race programs bydiscussing the “ins and outs” ofbeating the odds. We had some“lucky” residents who went homewinners! However, it wasconcluded that all of us felt likewinners because we not onlyenjoyed watching the horsessprint toward the finish lines butalso enjoyed each otherscompany!

everyone who brought in fooditems for our Red Hat LadiesFood Drive. We were able todonate over 90 perishable fooditems to the Palatine FoodPantry, along with over 100coupons that the ladies“clipped” for the food drive.

Under the Big Top!Step right up...these were the

words of the day! Our residentsand several staff and familymembers enjoyed a beautifulsummer day at our 6th AnnualCarnival. We had 14 booths,including the ever popularHugging Booth, Arm Wrestle “DaBelmont Kid” (who looked a lotlike our driver Bob), a FortuneTeller/Palm Reader (who lookedlike our driver Susan), plus 11carnival games to play that surelytested our luck and skill. Manyresidents and visitors went homewith some neat balloon creationsthanks to our “roaming” balloonman! Everyone enjoyed thepopcorn, sno-cones, andPopsicles. Many residents enjoyedsitting under the “cooling station.”We had 24 volunteers this yearwhich contributed to the successof this year’s carnival! Everyoneenjoyed trading in their winningtickets for an array of prizes. Theevent then culminated with ourannual water balloon toss - manythanks to Bob for taking all thehits from our “little” visitors!
