W e all have an innate longing to

know why we exist and to discover our purpose in life. It is knowing this purpose that gives our lives meaning and direc-tion.

The same is true for churches and organizations. They exist for a pur-pose, a “why?” This “why” identifies who they really are, what they value, and where they are going. This reason for existence is most often communi-cated in an organization’s motto or mission statement. These statements succinctly describe why they exist and how they aim to serve.

At Clearwater College, there are two mission statements that define our organizational purpose and guide our ministry activities. The first mission statement is that of the Living Faith Evangelistic Association, the parent organization that established Clearwa-ter College. Here is the LFEA Mission Statement.

Living Faith Evangelistic Association serves Christ’s Kingdom by making disciples through

• Spirit-filled and ministry-oriented biblical and theological education,

• faith renewing camps and retreats,

• domestic and international mission outreach.

First and foremost, we exist to make disciples. Our overarching pur-pose is to fulfill the commission of Christ when He said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, bap-tizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV).

Built on the core purpose of mak-ing disciples is our three-fold strategy. We make disciples through 1) Spirit-filled and ministry-oriented biblical and theological education, 2) faith renew-ing camps and retreats, and 3) domes-tic and international mission outreach. These three ministries are the “how” of “why” we exist.

Each of these three facets of Liv-ing Faith’s ministry plays an important role in our approach to making fully devoted followers of Christ.

In addition to life-transformation, our corresponding

goal is to equip and mentor students to become Spirit-empowered servant leaders for ministry. Our purpose is not to just make disciples, but to make disciples who can make disciples. In other words, to equip students to have an impact in their homes, churches, jobs, and communities so that the ripple-effect of Christ’s redemptive work can be spread around the world.

About 80% of the 1,400 students who have attended Clearwater College of Biblical Studies (formerly Living Faith Bible College) came for one or two years to grow in their personal walk with God before pursuing university education, a trade, or another career path. Even so, many of these students have served the Lord in a volunteer ca-pacity as worship leaders, deacons, elders, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, short-term missionaries, and in various other lay ministry capacities. They have also been a light for Christ on their jobs and in their communities.

About 20% of our students (nearly 300) came for the purpose of vocational ministry preparation and serve the Lord as pastors, youth pastors, missionaries, evangelists, church planters, Christian educators, worship leaders, or in some other vocational ministry.

We have students serving all around the world and the impact of their ministry has been far-reaching. One of my great joys as President is to connect with alumni and learn of their walk with the Lord and their involvement in ministry.

In addition to the nearly 1,400 who have attended as resident students, we have also had many others over the past 47 years come to audit a course or attend a course or seminar that we held in locations off campus. Two years ago, we began offering online courses. To date, 19 differ-ent students have enrolled in a total of 26 online courses.

Our Purpose (continued from page 1)

By hosting camps and retreats, thousands of children, youth, adults, and families, as well as many churches have been encouraged in their faith. Many have come to Christ and have been filled with the Holy Spirit, healed, baptized, and established in the Scriptures through the vast array of amazing Bible teachers that we have invited over the past 47 years. In addition to the impact of the camps and re-treats that we personally host each year, countless fami-lies, groups, and churches have also been impacted for Christ by renting our facilities and running their own events and programs.

With regard to our emphasis on missions and out-reach, every year ministry teams impact a wide range of people, churches, and communities throughout western Canada, the northwest USA, and abroad. In addition to outreach teams that are sent out each year, we have stra-tegic partnership agreements with ministries in various countries. Recently, our main focus has been establishing and supporting a sister Bible college in Nagaland, India. As noted in our previous newsletter, this past year, over 1,000 people came to Christ because of the revival that started with the students and staff of this college!

On that note, let me segway to the main focus of Living Faith’s ministry. Since 1971, with the establishment of Liv-ing Faith Bible College (now Clearwater College of Biblical Studies), our primary ministry emphasis has been biblical education. Over the past 47 years, nearly 1,400 students have been trained for Christian living and service to fulfill our motto, “Equipping for Life and Ministry.”

Our motto is a shortened form of the second mission statement that defines our organizational purpose. This mission statement was developed specifically to delineate the overarching purpose for the Bible College.

Clearwater College serves to extend Christ’s Kingdom by providing theological education and training that is biblical, practical, and transformational for the purpose of equipping and mentoring Spirit-empowered servant leaders for Chris-tian life and ministry.

Clearwater College provides a quality education that is biblically and theologically sound as well as practical and relevant for today’s realities. Moreover, college programs are enhanced with inspiring worship services, relational mentoring, authentic community, the practice of spiritual disciplines, and hands-on ministry experiences.

Our goal is not just information, but transformation. Every year, it is exciting to watch the spiritual growth and life-change that takes place in our students. These observ-able changes are often evidenced by increased joy, confi-dence, love, freedom, and victory over sin.

Fall 2018 Course Schedule

We anticipate that online student numbers will continue to increase as our program becomes better known.

Yes, at Clearwater College we know why we exist. As long as the Lord leads and provides, the leadership, facul-ty, and staff of Clearwater College are committed to faith-fully fulfill our mission of making fully devoted followers of Christ for many years to come.

Now, the question is, “Do YOU know why YOU exist? Have YOU discovered YOUR purpose for living?”

“You don’t create or design your purpose; you discover it. It’s a process of looking inward and upward. Inward at the unique passions and talents you possess, and upward at your creator who promises to ‘guide the humble in what is right.’” Wesley Wiley

“Without God, life has no purpose, and without purpose, life has no meaning. Without meaning, life has no signifi-cance or hope.” Rick Warren

The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Mark Twain

“What am I living for and what am I dying for are the same question.” Margaret Atwood

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

One of our greatest assets is our teaching staff, not just what courses they teach during the school year, but also the “salt shaker” ministries they are involved in off campus. For years, virtually all of our admin, faculty and staff have been involved in outreaches and activities in the various communi-ties surrounding our campus. This is equally good for us as well, as it keeps us rubbing shoulders with people in the “real world” outside of our Bible school “bubble”. Most of the time, these extra-mural activities follow very closely with a staff member’s interests and gifts. Some of the venues that our faculty have been involved in over the years include: the Chamber of Commerce, the school districts around us, various sports teams, the local gun club, 4-H, and similar connections. In a very real way, this is a healthy two-way benefit both to the community and to the faculty, and one which is highly encouraged by the College.

This year, a unique door of opportunity for service has been opened for me related to the Rocky Mountain House detachment of the RCMP. For a number of years, I have been increasingly drawn towards wanting to both express my gratitude towards them and the excellent job that they do, and also desiring in some way to be of practical help and service to the Mounties. Through a series of incredible providential encounters, a door was opened for me to serve as a volunteer RCMP chaplain here in Rocky. Now, at the end of nearly 6 months of application process and training, I have just started to serve in this capacity. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to do this, and to serve the Lord and represent Clearwater College in this capacity. It is also important as believers that we stand with law enforcement, and against some of the current trends in contemporary culture. Please keep me in prayer as I serve in this unique and important capacity!

Thanks to divinely arranged circumstances and the kind generosity of Angels for Mexico, we received a large donation of playground equipment in 2017. Then in June under the experienced guidance of Darcy Lamoureux, a team of skilled volunteers and staff were able to install a major portion of the playground. In addition to Darcy, the hard-working volunteers included his wife Wilma, Jim and Dolly Tycholaz, Conrad and Zachary Tycholaz, Rhonda Leslie, Terry Marchovich, Barry Langendoen, Ten different staff members also had a hand in bringing the playground to completion.

Also, thanks to the use of a dump truck generously donated by Brian’s Excavation and Trenching and the volunteer driving of John Leslie, nine loads of sand were delivered to provide a soft safety base for the playground area. All of this was done just in time for the new playground to be a major hit with the children at the Living Faith Family Camp, the FCA Family Camp, and for churches renting our facilities in July and August. A New Campus Addition!

Quick Camp Updates: Both the LF Family Camp and the FCA Family Camp were blessed by rich times of worship, inspiring preaching, and great fellowship. While the LF Family Camp had a modest 130 attend, more than 230 were pre-registered for the FCA Family Camp.
