THE WORSHIP OF GOD
9:00am Service of Worship
September 17, 2017
Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Announcements, Welcome & Opening Prayer
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! There’s just something about that name!
Master, Savior, Jesus! Like the fragrance after the rain.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Let all heaven and earth proclaim;
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, but there’s something about that name!
Prelude And Lighting Of The Candles
Hymn of Praise “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” UMH # 526
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the
third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right
hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen! Amen!
Morning Prayer / The Lord’s Prayer
Hymn of Dedication “My Hope Is Built” UMH # 368

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

I Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind, it isn’t jealous, it doesn’t brag, it isn’t arrogant, 5 it is-
n’t rude, it doesn’t seek its own advantage, it isn’t irritable, it doesn’t keep a record
of complaints, 6 it isn’t happy with injustice, but it is happy with the truth. 7 Love
puts up with all things, trusts in all things, hopes for all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. As for prophecies, they will be brought to an end. As for
tongues, they will stop. As for knowledge, it will be brought to an end.
Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a
wise builder who built a house on bedrock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and
the wind blew and beat against that house. It didn’t fall because it was firmly set
on bedrock. 26 But everybody who hears these words of mine and doesn’t put them
into practice will be like a fool who built a house on sand. 27 The rain fell, the floods
came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It fell and was completely
destroyed.”
