Why do we have DAY and NIGHT?
The Earth rotates on its axis and this rotation is why we have day and night.
It takes 24 hours to complete one rotation. • The Sun shines on one half of the Earth, so it’s day on
this half (facing the Sun).• It’s night on the half of the Earth that faces away from
the Sun.

Revolution
Why do we have SEASONS and CLIMATE?
When the Earth orbits the Sun, one hemisphere receives more light and heat that the other. This causes different climates and
different seasons. Realizado por Cris Rozas. Colegio Lourdes FUHEM
The Earth’s axis is tilted
When it is summer in the northern hemisphere, it is winter in the southern hemisphere so when it’s summer in Spain… What season it is in Australia?

Solar eclipse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIE1MTGz4eI
A solar eclipse only happens during a new moon. A solar eclipse happens when the moon goes in front to the Sun and blocks the light from the Sun. During a total eclipse, all we can see is a ring of light around the moon.
Realizado por Cris Rozas. Colegio Lourdes FUHEM
It’s very dangerous to look at a solar eclipse without special protection for
your eyes and remember not to look directly at the Sun.
Total eclipses don’t happen very often and most people are very lucky
if they see just one eclipse.
Realizado por Cris Rozas. Colegio Lourdes FUHEM
• A lunar eclipse can last up to an hour and a
half.
• During a lunar eclipse the moon may turn a
reddish color.
• It is not dangerous to look at a lunar eclipse
because the moon does not make its own light.
