Dear Parishioners,
The rescheduled Confirmation ceremony is coming up! The date is Sunday, August 30th! It will take place at 7 PM at the high school lawn. Only the confirmandi and their parents and sponsors will be permitted to attend.
As of this writing, 8 young transitional deacons are to be ordained by Archbishop José Gomez this Saturday, August 8th. One of them is going to be our new associate pastor of September 1. Please see page 4 of the bulletin for a photo and bio of soon-to-be Father Michael Mesa!
Registration has begun for Confirmation, Religious Education, Edge … we are adapting to our new normal for now with all of our programming. You can register online for all the programs. If you are having registration issues OR you prefer to pay by cash or check, please come to the parish office.
This virus is taking its toll on a lot of levels. People are stressed out. Some people are bored. Others are scared. The masks and the distancing and the concerns about catching the virus are all keeping everyone on edge. We are doing everything we can on our end as a people of faith to help us all stay connected and engaged at Holy Family. I am grateful that we have a beautiful courtyard for our Masses since we are required to worship outdoors for the moment. Some other parishes are not so blessed. I am grateful for our excellent and dedicated volunteers who do a fantastic job with disinfecting and keeping our environment safe. Thank you, volunteers!!!
I was thinking … we have Netflix, the Lakers are back on, the Dodgers are in action … but also … perhaps this is an opportunity for us to open our bibles and see how God is maybe speaking to us during this time. Maybe spiritual reading is in order?
Another possible suggestion … I highly recommend Bishop Robert Barron’s Word on Fire website to help us during these difficult times. There are a ton of resources available. Books, podcasts, homilies, movies … there is a lot of information to help us all grow in our faith. Bishop Barron is an auxiliary bishop in our archdiocese and currently serves as the regional bishop for the Santa Barbara region. He is an erudite scholar, intelligent, joyful and an excellent evangelizer. What a gift! Summer blessings and health- Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor 818-247-2222 x225 [email protected]

PARISH NEWS
Build appropriate social media relationships
Online relationships are important, especially for teens and young people. But adults who use social media to connect with the children in their lives need to be sure that they are building appropriate relationships. Before sending a friend request, consider the “PAN” standard. While used commonly for appropriate real-life touch, in today’s increasingly virtual use, PAN is a good benchmark for online interactions. Communications should be Public, Appropriate, and Non-sexual. For more information, request a copy of the VIRTUS article “Before you send a young person a ‘friend request’” at https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
AS CATHOLICS OUR STORY IS ALIVE
Our parish commitment weekend and follow up weekend was completed in February. Our Parish goal is $100,261. The pledges we have received so far total $82,796. The amount paid is $46,690. Out of our 4700 registered families, 450 have made a pledge or payment. Payment and Pledge online is available at OurMissionLA.org.
Thank you for those who have made their pledges.

OUR NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR
OUR NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 1
Father Michael Mesa’s was ordained yesterday, August 8. He is assigned to serve at Holy Family beginning September 1. We are excited, and we look forward to having him here at Holy Family. Biography: I am 31 years old, and I grew up in Philips Ranch, California, (near Diamond Bar/Pomona) raised by my mother and father, along with my younger brother. We attended St. Denis in Diamond Bar. I graduated from Diamond Bar Ranch High School in 2006. For college I attended the University of Southern California, (USC Class of 2010), majoring in Biological Sciences, hoping to begin a career in medicine. However, after graduation, while working at USC as a Laboratory Manager, I began to grow in my Catholic faith and soon after, the thought of priesthood began to grow in my heart. I entered St. John’s Seminary in 2013 and after seven amazing years at St. John’s, I graduated this May 2020, earning my Master of Divinity—and hoping to be Ordained the Priesthood soon! On a personal level, some hobbies I enjoy are hiking, running, cooking and sharing a meal with friends. “What inspired you to become a priest?” – My journey to the priesthood has been an amazing and humbling experience, filled with a lot of prayer, interior growth, and most importantly deepening friendship
with Jesus. In the priesthood, I hope to be a bridge to connect people to the love of Jesus Christ that I have been blessed to experience. I hope to be able to give my life for all those who are in darkness, pain, or hopelessness. And I hope to be able to celebrate with people all the milestones in their own journey of life. In the same way Christ reached out to me through a priest, I hope to become that bridge as well. Just as in my life, I have found a word of wisdom, an act of kindness, an understanding heart, a warm smile, and most of all the Sacraments of the Church – all these manifestations of God’s Love and the Holy Spirit have impact far beyond our understanding. To be able to be a part of this in the amazing Holy Family community will truly an amazing gift from God, one that I am most grateful and excited for!

MINISTERIO HISPANO
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
