A word from the President

Welcome,

I hope you had an enjoyable and blessed goose break with your family and friends.

We began the New Year with annual planning sessions that set out goals and objectives to aim for in the areas of communication, operations, and expansions in order to better serve our communities and beyond. This issue highlights one of our subsidiaries’ employees with their day-to-day activities, and summarises other successes of CREECO and its subsidiaries.

We will be having our 4th Annual Assembly on July 17th and 18th in Waskaganish. We sent invitations to the communities to nominate the delegates who will attend and we look forward to seeing them there.

With summer just around the corner, the end of another school year is here and graduations are being held so I’d like to take this time to congratulate students at all levels and best success in your paths. I’ll also take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy National Indigenous Peoples Day, St-Jean Baptiste Day and Canada Day as well!

Have a great summer!

GESTION ADC

Gestion ADC has been in operation for more than 25 years and was created after the acquisition of DOMCO’s food services share of the partnership with Cree Construction & Development Company (CCDC) in 1993. Early 2012 marked the creation of Kiskinchiish Camp Services headed by Mr. Sydney Swallow in conjunction with Gestion ADC to serve the Stornoway Diamond mine north of Mistissini. Kiskinchiish provides janitorial, catering, and facilities management jobs to approximately 75 workers that serve 325 Stornoway employees. Both partners bring complimentary skills and knowledge to the table thereby building a successful foundation to the partnership. In 2018, CREECO decided to separate subsidiaries by their field of expertise and Gestion ADC became independent from Cree Construction and Development. This was a necessary step in order to become more agile to respond to both clients and partners for better relationships. Gestion ADC is now able to concentrate all efforts on catering and janitorial operations.Gestion ADC’s primary expertise is to develop remote camp on-site catering and custodial projects which provide employment opportunities for First Nations workers. We share CCDC’s overall vision of delivering exceptional quality products and services while exceeding client expectations. This is accomplished via frequent and transparent

client communication that seeks to deliver. Success can only be realized through operations flexibility and adaptation to the client’s needs and wants. In order to capture the business of key clients and the growing demand in Cree communities and other markets, Gestion ADC primarily employees a joint venture model. We do not operate by coming to the table directly with a mining company. Considering that many of our contracts require community approval, we are building relationships

and ready to partner when the community wishes to move forward. This approach of doing business creates an alignment of interests and prioritizes not only hiring local manpower but also ensures a career path through training and continuous upgrading of skills. It also promotes environmental stewardship as well as cultural sensitivity.

CREECO ACTIVITIES SUBSIDIARIES AND PARTNERSHIPS

Annual Career Fair in Waskaganishon March 4 & 5CCDC and Gestion ADC attended the Career Fair. We had the opportunity to talk with the youth about the different types of career opportunities that our companies have, the type of education and skills needed, and encouraged them to stay in school so that one day they could come work for any one of our companies. We also spoke with community members about current and future job opportunities. Once again, we had the very popular Air Creebec flight simulator to test their aviation skills. We held a few draws for those who visited our booth and the winners were:BOC-CREECO Hoodies:Gracious JonahTyrell StephenDanis WhiskeychanMarcus MosesDestiny BlacksmithCCDC Hoodie:Kamryn ErlessBOC-CREECO Bag:Paige BlacknedTony GilpinPair of Hockey tickets Senators:Mary Diamond

QUALITY INN & Suites Val-d’OrQuality Inn & Suites honoured with Platinum Guest Satisfaction Award

Choice Hotels Canada, one of the country’s largest hotel franchisors, recently announced that Quality Inn & Suites Val-d’Or was awarded another prestigious Platinum Guest Satisfaction Award. These annual awards celebrate Canadian properties for their operational excellence and dedication to superior service. This is the hotel’s 7th Platinum award.

VALPIROWhen you’ve had to take a flight, you may have noticed the ground workers that take care of baggage or signal the planes for landing and take off. These workers are the Ramp Attendants. Since they signal the pilot from the ground it is imperative that they follow safety procedures to ensure everyone’s protection. We had a chance to interview some of these employees. Maybe you or someone you know would like to join our team and become a Ramp Attendant!

Interviews

Alain Martel, Operating Director, 25+ years

Alain joined Valpiro 25 years ago. He started as a Ramp Attendant for one year, moved up to Fuel Man, and then became Fuel Director for 17 years. Alain followed that position as Director of Maintenance for 3 years. He is now the Operating Director. He enjoyed the challenges he met while climbing up the ladder, the outdoor physical work, and the team. Alain’s current position gives him the opportunity to oversee the operations and supervise the ground crew. He said, “this type of job has had many surprises!”; from unexpected weather changes to unscheduled flights, one must always be alert!

Christian Matteau, Ramp Director, 30+ years

Christian moved from Montreal to Val-d’Or more than 30 years ago and was looking for work. Someone mentioned to him that Valpiro was hiring and that’s how it began. He started off as a Ramp Attendant to Reception/Shipping clerk for two years, then Fuel Man to Assistant Director of Operations, to his current title as Ramp Director and Trainer. Due to a 5 am start, weekend shifts, and physically demanding outdoor work, there are high turnover rates with the entry level jobs. Christian stayed and moved up the ladder over the years. Today he’s able to train all new workers who usually start off as a Ramp Attendant. If you enjoy hands-on demanding physical outdoor work and early morning shifts then this can be an employment option!

Morley Etapp(Jr), Ramp Attendant

Morley recently joined the team in October 2018 as a Ramp Attendant and became a full time permanent employee in January. He said, “In the first three weeks I followed the workers on the job.” In the 3rd week he was able to do the tasks with his teammate: there are always two ramp attendants per flight. He says he enjoys the challenges and the teamwork. It’s always busy, so the Ramp Attendants must be vigilant and ready at all times. He explained that during one of his shifts 11 planes landed in the span of 4 and half hours. That requires a strong ability to work under pressure and be alert. At the time of this interview he was looking forward to doing his navigation test which is a requirement when you are a Ramp Attendant.

“It requires a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work to not only reach, but maintain that standard of service,” said Brian Leon, president, Choice Hotels Canada. “Quality Inn & Suites Val-d’Or efforts have not gone unnoticed and today they represent the best of the best in our system.”Guest Satisfaction Awards are determined based on a ranking system that examines key performance indicators, including guest survey results. Platinum winners represent the best of the best and are among the top three per cent of hotels in the Choice Hotels Canada portfolio of close to 320 properties.“We made a commitment to our guests to provide the best level of service possible and winning this award is a clear validation of those efforts,” said Alexandre Audet, general manager, Quality Inn & Suites Val-d’Or. “We are so proud of our team and what we’ve accomplished together.”

“This business venture continues to be a proven success. CREECO thanks the franchise of Choice Hotels Canada for their continued support and recognition. We also congratulate the staff and management of Quality Inn and Suites and wish them continued growth and prosperity in all their business and operational endeavours”

Derrick Neeposh, President of CREECO.

CREECO DUMAS MINING Inc.

Creeco Dumas Mining Inc. (Creeco Dumas) has successfully completed two contracts at Goldcorp’s Éléonore Mine.In July 2016, Creeco Dumas signed a contract for development work at Éléonore. The following year, we were awarded construction work and provided manpower and equipment to supplement the project’s needs. Demobilization was completed on January 8, 2019 with an outstanding safety performance throughout all phases of work, achieving more than 900 days without a Lost Time Injury. In December 2018, Dumas representatives participated in the 15th Annual Business Exchange Day that took place in Val-d’Or. Dumas was invited and participated in order to develop new opportunities and grow their network throughout the Cree Nation economic alliance. On March 4, 2018, a business review meeting was held between Dumas representatives, Mr. Jack Blacksmith and Mr. Derrick Neeposh, the recently elected president of the Cree Regional Economic Enterprises Company and Chairman of the Board of Compensation. Most recently Creeco Dumas prepared and presented competitive proposals to undertake ventilation shaft work at Stornoway-Renard Mine and exploration ramps at Osisko Mining project Windfall Lake. Both proposals are currently under evaluation by the owners and may result in mining work for Creeco Dumas.

We aim to service all mining contracting needs, from concept to completion. With any new project comes the potential for new and established businesses to serve the needs of the company, its major suppliers and its employees. We are committed to providing First Nations communities with the best possible opportunity to secure contract work related to our projects.

On May 14, 2019, a meeting between Derrick Neeposh, President of CREECO and Wayne Mohns, Vice-President of Operations for Dumas Mining Inc. discussed a variety of issues related to the expansion of operations in Quebec and Ontario and working in collaboration with other subsidiaries of CREECO. This meeting was also to discuss the capture of new business opportunities and solidify our working relationships in all aspects of our existing and upcoming business ventures. Further updates will be publicized as they become available.

Derrick Neeposh, President of CREECO.

Waskaganish will host the Board of Compensation’s 4th annual assembly on July 17th and 18th, 2019.

March 28th, 2018, Creeco Dumas completed the junction between the main ramp at the 1040 level. Creeco Dumas Mining was working from the 1140 captive level toward the Goldcorp team progressing downward from the upper level.
