We are excited to share the 2015 Annual Report with all of you – our incredibly generous supporters and partners.

Thanks to the commitment and strong financial support of our donors – corporations, foundations, individuals, governmental partners and our Board of Directors – 2015 was an extraordinary year of growth for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH). Here are several standouts:

• Local BGCGH 2015 Youth of the Year Carla Trochez was awarded the state title of Texas Youth of the Year, which is the first time in the organization’s 63-year history that a BGCGH Club member advanced to that level. Board member Carolyn Khourie was her mentor and made an incredible difference in Carla’s life.

• BGCGH reached a milestone of serving 2,000 Club members in the Clubs each day during the months of April and May 2015 – nearly a 100% increase in the average daily attendance from 2013.

• With special thanks to The George Foundation and the Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation, BGCGH constructed a new 21,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that opened in June 2015 as the “Richmond-Rosenberg Boys & Girls Club.” BGCGH established the Fort Bend Community Council to augment and support this local club.

• BGCGH relocated its headquarters to make room at the Havard Club for the upcoming Houston Texans Teen Club. We were fortunate to secure a long-term lease from the Neighborhood Resource Center at the Historic Oaks Allen Parkway Village to serve as dual-purpose facility for the “Allen Parkway Boys & Girls Club.”

• We established a successful partnership with KIPP Public Charter Schools to open a new “KIPP Sunnyside Club Boys & Girls Club” serving all youth on their campus with BGCGH programs.

• Key gifts in 2015 included The Brown Foundation contribution of $500,000 toward club renovations and repairs and the Sysco Corporation gift of $500,000 for support of the Kids’ Cafés.

• A valuable programmatic add on was the gift from the Hamill Foundation to fund the implementation of the “Batter Up” program where baseball clinics, coaching, organized camps and games were implemented in five clubs with hope for growth throughout all clubs.

• Houston was chosen as the host site for Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2019 National Annual Conference.• The 2015 Great Futures Dinner raised $825,000 with more than 800 guests.• And finally, BGCGH was honored as one of Houston Business Journal’s Top Houston-Area Charitable

Organizations in 2015 – the third year in a row.

Our work is not finished. While we are proud to serve over 11,000 youth through our 13 Clubs in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston and Waller Counties, we must reach many more impoverished youth who still lack access to after school resources in their communities. They deserve a safe place that offers quality enrichment activities to help them grow and develop outside of school, along with caring adult mentoring, and affordable tutoring, arts and sports programs that can prevent them from turning to juvenile crime or delinquency. Our Club is that place.

We invite you to continue reading to learn more about our 2015 accomplishments. Thank you again for your support in helping us make great things happen for Houston-area youth. With grateful thanks,

ADAM C. PEAKES

The Spring Branch Club’s Carla Trochez made BGCGH history by becoming the first teen from BGCGH to win the state title as the 2015 Texas Youth of the Year for which she won a $5,000 scholarship. Judges were impressed with Carla’s outstanding academic achievements (ranked second in Northbrook High School’s senior class with a 6.47 GPA) and her commitment to serving others. During her tenure at the Spring Branch Club, Carla organized numerous volunteer projects and taught nutrition and exercise classes to first through third grade students. Carla is an aspiring dietitian and has earned a full scholarship to Texas Women’s University.

Keystone and Torch Clubs engage Club members in service projects to support and enhance their local Club and community, while nurturing essential character and leadership skills.

Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs’ signature program to recognize hard-working youth for their academic and leadership accomplishments.

BGCGH congratulates Carla for her exemplary commitment to education and service. She is a true inspiration to her fellow Club members and to all of us!

“ If it wasn’t for the Club I would not be in this state of self-actualization. The Club helped me change my outlook on the world. I loved coming to the Club, and I loved helping other kids, and I loved interacting with the staff. I get a sense of fulfillment as I not only receive the help to better myself but give the help to others.”

–CARLA TROCHEZ

More than 800 attendees were drawn to the 27th Annual Great Futures Dinner on September 9, 2015 where they were wowed by the remarks of World Cup star and Houston Dash midfielder, Carli Lloyd. Honorees Patti & Mike Morgan were recognized for their long-time support of BGCGH. Among the guests were 150 Boys & Girls Club members and alumni who shared their personal stories and helped donors understand the impact of BGCGH first-hand. Chairs Carolyn & Matt Khourie and Katherine & Paul Murphy raised more than $800,000 to benefit the organization’s ongoing programming.
