STEWARDSHIP - A Reflection: It just never occurred to us to try out the rest of it "and give alms," as you say. Your words might even inspire us to match our diners out with a donation for world hunger. When we but new clothes to stuff in the closet and wear twice a year we might even give alms to clothe the naked or use one of our automobiles to drive the elderly. It won't be a drastic change in our lifestyle, Lord, because we aren't radicals like you. On the other hand we want at least a little treasure in the bank you brag about where thieves do not come near or moths destroy. Lord, disturb our comfortable ways a little. Help us to comfort the world.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

9/21: $6,098 / Children: $42.90 Maintenance and Repairs $3,485

"Ushers do not carry change, nor can they touch the money that is collected at Mass; so please do not ask them for change. Thank you for understanding and for your continued generosity. :) "

Mark Your Calendar for annual Tricky Tray Friday, October 17, 2014 All are invited for a fun night, see you there. All donations can be brought to the Parish Center or call Joyce 201-880-5011

TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE FOR TRICKY TRAY - $15.00 per pink sheet. At Bingo see Monica or call Joyce 201-880-5011 or go to the Parish Center. Tickets are going fast.

MAYWOOD & MUSIC - How about being a Star? How about trying something new! Well, maybe not a star right away, but at least have some fun! Meet a great bunch of people and maybe, you never know, you might just have that “star” quality. What can you lose? Give it a try – It costs nothing and might be the most rewarding thing you ever did. It all started Sunday, Sept. 7th. All rehearsals are at 7:30 PM in the OLQP Auditorium. Check the OLQP calendar and come to one of our rehearsals. We'll be there to say "Welcome".

SUNDAY PARKING AND TRAFFIC - Due to safety issues on Sundays we will be changing the traffic pattern on our property between the times that the 8:00 Mass gets out and 10:00 Mass begins. After the 8:00 Mass is dismissed, the gate to the exit driveway will be closed; the exit drive will be off limits so as to prevent anyone from getting hurt during the dismissal of the students from CCD. Once the 10:00 Mass begins, and the students have all been dismissed, the gate will be reopened. If you are exiting our property at that time we ask that you be patient until the gate is opened. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE.

OUR MOTHER OF PERPETUAL HELP NOVENA “For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed” (Lk 1:48b). These are the words of the Virgin Mary to the Angel. Therefore, seeking Mary’s intercession is more powerful than asking for the prayers of our friends; because, Mary is FULL OF GRACE! Meaning, she is privileged to intercede for us by the order of grace. Mary’s life is connected to the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word of God – Jesus. There is also a degree of respect we give to the Saints, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and God. We give reverence (dulia) to saints for they are the model of holiness; we give supreme respect (hyperdulia) to Mary for she is the Mother of God; and we give worship to God (latria) for it is right and just.

Hence, devotion to Mary fosters and purifies our adoration of God rather than polluting it. Our Parish will start the First Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help on October 1, 2014 at 7 pm in the Church with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Perpetual Help Novena will be on Wednesdays (usually in the parish center chapel), but the times and locations may change from time to time. Please be sure to watch the bulletin for correct times and locations each week, as they may change. If you have questions call Fr. Charez (Don) 201-845-9566 ext. 104 or [email protected]. Let us come to Mary our Mother, asking her protection for our country, our family and for peace. Loving Mother, help us!

Historic 2014 National 54 Day Rosary Novena -This Monday, September 29th, the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate, along with a number of national Catholic organizations, is launching a National 54-Day Rosary Novena for Peace and the Family, with a special focus on marriage, human life, and religious freedom. These are key issues which we, as Catholics, are fully immersed and realize their vast importance. The Novena will conclude on Friday, November 21st. Through this Novena, Catholics across America will turn to Our Lady to intercede in a powerful, yet motherly, manner while we pray with her for these special intentions. We ask that each of you considers participating in this urgent time of prayer - offering a message of hope amidst the spiritual crisis in our culture and nation. The Rosary Evangelization Apostolate has launched a special website, www.54days.org , where you will find a special series of online inspirational text messages that participants can receive each day via Smartphones. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this effort.

IRS Phone Scam - Please be advised that there is a phone scam targeting senior citizens and immigrants - someone claims to be calling from the IRS, threatening to arrest a member of your family if past-due taxes are not paid immediately. They then ask for a credit card number and other personal information. The IRS will NEVER make this type of contact by phone, without sending written correspondence first! If you get a call like this and want to check it out yourself, you may call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.

OLQP CATECHETICAL CENTER

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) contains the teaching of the Holy Mother Church to initiate the People of God into the fullness of Christian life (CCC # 5). It does not exhaust God for God is bigger than the written words. The CCC puts together the teachings of Jesus through the authority of the Church for the salvation of souls. The Church as a mother always desires her children to be safe here and lead them to eternal life. Good parents always want the best for their children. The CCC encapsulates this mandate to guide the People of God. The Catechism is divided into four pillars: the baptismal profession of faith (Creed), the sacraments of faith, the life of faith (the Commandments and the precepts of the Church), and the prayer of the believer (the Lord’s prayer). It is a road map written in a systematic way to help us encounter, not the book, but the giver of the words in the book: God.

If you think about it, our faith is not in the words of the book, but in the Word of God who was made flesh and lived among us: Jesus. When we know our faith by heart, we don’t simply live as a Catholic Christian by name, but we become a child of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, who sees the challenges of life differently in the perspective of Christ. We become people of hope, faith and love, not of despair and frustration. These four pillars of the Catechism help each of us to grow in holiness and in virtues in the here and now. For reflection: When was the last time you prayed the Lord’s Prayer with attentiveness to every word?

If you would like to have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and a Catholic Bible please let us know. We will try to provide it at a discount. The cost is nothing compared to the knowledge you will gain. Questions and Comments, please write us or email us at [email protected]. We will be glad to assist you to grow in the Faith. In Christ through Mary, Fr. Charez (Don)
