PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not
be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37)
Hello parents and guardians,
I hope all is well. Welcome to March, the month of Forgiveness. The virtue
of Forgiveness enables us to unburden ourselves of all the many hurtful
things that we have either witnessed or that has been done to us. Do we feel
we are able to truly “forgive those who trespass against us?” What makes it
easier to forgive and what makes it harder? The following are things that we
will be working on at Our Lady of Victory; Are we peacemakers? Are we fair?
Are we forgiving? Do we allow others to lead us into temptation? Do we
follow rules and do our share? Do we help the unfortunate and care for
people in need? Do we stand up for what is right? Jesus said: "Do to others
as you would wish them do to you." (Matthew 7:120) Help us, God, to
remember this Golden Rule, and have the courage to forgive one another
and treat each other with respect. All the very best to you as we continue to
educate our children to be contributive and caring members of our
community.
Sincerely,
G. Danfulani

March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day. Why? Because there are 3 strands in the 21st chromosome of a person with Down Syndrome. (3 strands = the 3rd month which is March). We are on March Break during this time so OLV will be celebrating on Friday, March 13, 2020. We ask that your child wear their loudest, craziest, and most fun pair of MATCHED or MISMATCHED socks as a symbolic show of support for our beautiful students who have Down Syndrome.

Guidance Corner for March In March, we celebrate the virtue of Forgiveness, to coincide with the holy season of Lent. You can help your children to continue to develop a forgiving nature and positive relationship skills. Using good manners, being respectful to peers, showing empathy, apologizing when necessary and resolving conflicts peacefully, go a long way in building healthy relationships with others. Some helpful websites are listed here: https://www.everydayfamily.com/blog/how-to-teach-your-children-to-forgive/ https://www.verywellfamily.com/how-to-encourage-good-sibling-relationships-620105
https://www.parentingscience.com/kids-make-friends.html https://raisingchildren.net.au/school-age/behaviour/friends-siblings/supporting-friendships High School registrations are currently taking place for Grade 8 students. Please check the admission package that your child received to confirm how to proceed. Signing your child up for the Summer Transition credit course is highly recommended as it provides students with an opportunity to become acquainted with the school, review subjects and make new friends. There are also a number of other forms that are required to be handed in on registration night, along with school fees.
It is important for students to experience the city they live in to gain an awareness of local culture and to have an opportunity to visit different neighbourhoods and communities. I have included a link here to some free March Break activities that you may wish to enjoy as a family:https://www.todocanada.ca/march-break-activities-toronto/
DROP OFF/KISS & RIDE
• Please remember that safety trumps convenience when dropping off students at school.
• Drop off and a 10-minute parking limit is available on Guestville Ave.
• The busiest time for drop off is between 8:20am-8:30 am.
• Supervision in the yard begins at 8 am.
School Yard Safety
Parent/Guardian we ask for your
support of ensuring the students
safety during morning drop off.
We ask that parents do not stay
in the school yard and wait for
the bell to ring. Rather drop off
your child as there is supervision
in the yard.
Thank you for your continued
support.
Bus Loading Area
Parents please do not block the bus
loading zone or on the right hand of
the street at the end of the day. Our
busses arrive early and if cars are
blocking them, they will not be able
to park, which will affect the bus
loading.
Balls in the school yard
Due to the number of head injuries that occur during recess in the school yard, hard soccer balls and footballs
ARE NOT ALLOWED. Basketballs are only allowed by the basketball nets. Please help keep our students safe.
Concussions are serious.
Winter Clothing
Parents please ensure your
child wears winter clothing
such as coats, snow pants,
boots, mittens and hats as
the students will be outside,
unless otherwise directed by
the school board. Please
LABEL all your child’s
belongings.
Our Lady of Victory’s parent council meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month
except when there is a scheduling conflict with mandatory school board events or any other
extenuating circumstance. Please join us in the school’s Atrium for our next meeting on March
11, 2020 at 6:30 PM if you can, your voice and ideas, plus time really matters.
Home/School Connection
Questions to ask your child when supporting them with
homework:
• What are you working on?
• What are you learning?
• Is it challenging or not? Why?
• What do you do when you are stuck on a task?
• How do you know you are on the right track?
• What resources do you use at school to complete this
kind of work?
• What resources do you need at home to complete this
kind of work?
Reflections for a parent
• Does my child have a quiet space to complete
her/his homework?
• Have I set the framework for homework routines?
• Do I monitor my child’s homework for completion?
• Can I give my child feedback based on the learning
goal and success criteria provided?
