Please join us in prayer this week for :
Feast of Corpus Chris! Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church June 3, 2018
From the Pastor: In 2014, on this great solemnity of Corpus Chris!, Pope Francis said:
Besides physical hunger, man experiences another hunger,
a hunger that cannot be sa!ated with ordinary food. It’s a hun-
ger for life, a hunger for love, a hunger for eternity. And the sign
of manna — like the en!re experience of Exodus — also con-
tains in itself this dimension: it was the symbol of a food that
sa!sfies this deep human hunger. Jesus gives us this food, ra-
ther, He himself is the living bread that gives life to the world.
His Body is the true food in the form of bread; his Blood is the
true drink in the form of wine. It isn’t simple nourishment to
sa!sfy the body, like manna; the Body of Christ is the bread of
the last !mes, capable of giving life, eternal life, because this
bread is made of love.
The Eucharist communicates the Lord’s love for us: a love so
great that it nourishes us with Himself; a freely given love, al-
ways available to every person who hungers and needs to re-
generate his own strength. To live the experience of faith means
to allow oneself to be nourished by the Lord and to build one’s
own existence not with material goods but with the reality that
does not perish: the gi#s of God, his Word and his Body.
.
We have such tremendous sacraments of freedom in Reconcilia-
!on and the Eucharist! Be freed, my brothers and sisters, in God’s
love and mercy for us!
With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin
Mary June 9
Although it found prominence in the 20th
century, when In 1944, in the midst of World
War II, Pope Pius XII dedicated the en!re
world to the patronage and protec!on of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary, devo!on to Mary’s
Immaculate Heart is not new. Early Chris!ans
revered the men!on of Mary’s heart in the
Gospels—she pondered the events of the na-
!vity in her heart (Lk 2:19); and when she and
Joseph presented Jesus in the temple, Simeon
prophesied that a sword of sorrow would
pierce her heart (Lk 2:35). The image of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary is portrayed as hav-
ing been pierced with seven wounds, symbol-
izing the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Of course,
Mary was faithful to Jesus to the end, and the
image of her sorrowfully beholding her Son on
the cross has always struck a deep chord with
the faithful. The feast day of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary falls on the day a#er the feast
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus because devo!on
to these two hearts was promoted together as
a means of entering more deeply into the
mystery of God’s love.
Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
June 8
Whether statues or stained glass, the
image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be
found in churches all over the world. Je-
sus looks down, one hand extended out
and another poin!ng to a heart wreathed
in thorns and glowing with light. In the
Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and
the joy of the life of Christ, who became
one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and
loved us each and all during his life, his
agony, and his Passion and gave himself
up for each one of us ? He has loved us all
with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the
Incarna!on, God becomes man. Jesus ex-
perienced the fullness of humanity, in-
cluding its sufferings. June 8th is the Feast
of the Sacred Heart. We remember all
that Jesus endured for us. We also re-
member why he endured it -- out of
love.

Feast of Corpus Chris! Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church June 3, 2018
Scripture: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body,
which is for you; do this in remembrance of me. "In the same way, a!er
supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance
of me." 1 Corinthians 11:23-25
Do you ever have trouble remembering things. Being forge!ul isn't new. It has been around since just about the beginning of "me. The
night Jesus was betrayed, he was ea"ng with his disciples. He knew that he would soon return to his Father in heaven. He wanted to make
sure that his disciples would remember him a#er he was gone, so he did something that would help them to remember. As they were
ea"ng, he took a piece of bread and he broke it and said, "This is my body which is broken for you. When you eat the bread, remember
me." Then he took a glass of wine and held it up and said, this is my blood which is shed for you. When you drink it, remember me." It has
been almost 2000 years since that night and we s"ll use that same way to remember Jesus. When we take communion, we eat the bread
and drink the cup to remind us that Jesus suffered and died on the cross so that we might have life. As we eat the bread and drink from the
cup today, we remember him. h&ps://www.sermons4kids.com/lest_we_forget.html
Dear Jesus, we remember you today. We remember that your body was broken and your blood was shed so that we might have life everlasting. Thank you.
