Christian Stewardship

The decision to follow Jesus without reservation is a difficult one that calls on the believer to trust God’s providential care even in the most difficult moments. God’s ways are often not our ways. In a month the Church will canonize two new saints, Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. Both learned to trust through some difficult times in their lives. In so doing they have become examples of heroic sanctity lived out during the lifetime of many of us still living.

Saint Vincent de Paul March 23, 2014

Third Sunday of Lent

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.”

Through your almsgiving you are giving signs of grace to others; far greater than you think. Know that your donation is multiplied by the donations placed by others in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box. In the month of February, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to proclaim the good news of the kingdom to the poor, by assisting 19 families, providing $305.00 in food, $5,732.00 in housing and rent assistance, $1,782.00 for heat and utilities, $80.00 in auto/gas and $15.00 in prescriptions.

JUNIOR YOUTH MINISTRY

On Palm Sunday, April 13 from 8AM - 1PM, the Jr. Youth Ministry will be selling baked goods before and after all morning masses in St. Mary’s Hall. Please stop by to check out all of the goodies that the youth have baked. Proceeds from the bake sale will go toward the Youth Ministry and the Haiti Medical Mission. If you have any questions, please contact Betsy Cassini at 215-766-7313 or [email protected].

Saint Vincent de Paul Easter Food Basket Program

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society continues to seek your help in providing Easter Food Baskets for families in our

parish. If you are willing and able to provide a food basket consisting of either a ham or turkey, fruits and vegetables, bread or rolls, and any other food stuffs that would make for an Easter celebration dinner (this could include chocolate), please contact the Society at 215-348-8833. When leaving your message please provide us with your name, telephone number and a convenient time we may return your call. A representative from the Society will call you with information regarding the number of members in the family you will be sponsoring and a code number. Food Baskets should be brought to St. Mary’s Hall on Wednesday, April 16th between the hours of 6:30AM-11AM. Thank you for any support you can provide in helping the SVDP Society in fulfilling its mission to help those in need.

GREETERS

First GREETERS: Do you have an outgoing personality: are you a people person and love to make people feel welcome? Well, do we have a ministry for you!! Ministers of Hospitality greet parishioners as they come into the church and wish them a good day as they leave. This is a great ministry if you have had the desire to get involved with our parish but cannot find any extra time in your week/day. Since you will be at Mass anyway on any given Sunday, why not share your time and talents by making OLMC a more warm and welcoming community. This is different than the Ushers and it is open to All, from teens to seniors. There will be a training session, after that there is little time commitment required except for your assigned Mass on Sunday. For more information contact: Jayne Boccuzzi, 215-794-7897 or [email protected].

NEW DATE “None of Us Are Home Until All of Us Are Home”

Monday, April 7, 2014 7PM

St. Mary’s Hall The Peace & Justice Ministry and the Ladies of Mt. Carmel are proud to welcome Will O’Brien from Philadelphia’s Project HOME, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that has been developing solutions to homelessness and poverty for twenty-five years. Mr. O’Brien, special projects coordinator for the organization, will talk about what it takes to overcome homelessness, and about the lessons of transformation, hope, and grace that the members of Project HOME have learned through their work; a resident of Project HOME will join him to speak about their personal experience. Project HOME works to help people to overcome chronic homelessness, with street outreach programs, a range of supportive housing, and comprehensive services. They are committed to strengthening neighborhoods, knowing that homelessness often grows out of vulnerability. To that end, they work with both their individual clients and the local neighborhoods on affordable home ownership, economic development, health services, and community organizing. Because education and employment are so tightly linked, Project HOME also provides clients with access to adult and youth education as well as occupational services. Sister Mary Scullion and Joan Dawson McConnon founded Project HOME in 1989 on the spiritual conviction of the dignity of each person, and the belief that all persons are entitled to decent, affordable housing and access to quality education, employment, and health care. Refreshments will be provided by the Ladies of Mount Carmel. For further information, contact: Rosemary Ramil 215-340-0238.

CHILDREN’S TIME & TALENT How can you teach children the importance and the joy of giving? It is impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same time. As we count our blessings we naturally find a sense of peace and contentment. Children learn that they are called to give back something to God. They also learn that they must let go of some of their own wants. Stewardship teaches children the difference between needs and wants. Children learn to concentrate on their blessings rather than on what they want. The idea of the children’s envelopes is not to raise more money but to teach children the joys of giving and helping. Thus, it is more important that children give a quarter from their own bank than $5 from a parent’s wallet. Children’s envelopes also encourage kids to share talent - a good deed or a prayer they have written - or to write down ways they have been good stewards.
