Whole Community Faith Sharing John 1:35-42

Reflection: Jesus was inviting His disciples to “come and you will see.” We receive invitations from Jesus in our daily lives in small & sometimes big ways. Sometimes we miss them, because we are focused on things that are not important to our spiritual growth. His invitation is constant…He seeks us and wants us to share in His love. We need to keep our hearts open and recognize His call and opportunities. When we accept these invitations, more of His grace is revealed and our lives continue to be changed to a state of Spiritual peace and grace. If we recognize these whispers, we will be more “in community” and will continue to be transformed. What a wonderful daily experience this can be! Faith Question: As Jesus enters my life with the gentle call of His grace, how do I reply? Will I be busy with other things, afraid he will ask too much of me? Or will I trust him? Will I be open to his call and a new beginning in my life? Faith Response: I will be sensitive to the invitations in my daily life that God sends to me to be close to Him.. by helping others and being kind to all in my life.

Safeguard Our Children Did You Know?

Building a strong parent-teen relationship As pandemic lockdowns continue, parents and teenage children are spending more and more time together. It is not always easy to connect with teens, because they often feel their parents do not

understand them and prefer to confide in their friends instead. Nevertheless, the time at home offers an opportunity for parent-teen relationships to evolve and for trust to grow in developmentally appropriate ways. Teens need the guidance and support

of a parent as an important balance to the permissive understanding of a “friendship” relationship. As children become teenagers, parental authority does not diminish but may be better served by involving the teens in a dialogue about rules and limits. From our Principal’s Desk…

The next few weeks I ask some of our school community members to reflect on "Why do you value Catholic education?" This is one way we will celebrate our parish school of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as we approach Catholic Schools Week January 31-February 6. Today I share my own brief reflection for why my husband and I choose Catholic education for our own children: Lily (10th grade Bishop Diego), Joe (7th grade OLMCS), and Vince (4th grade OLMCS). “It takes a village to raise a child.” I do not think I fully appreciated the meaning of this expression until my husband and I began our own parenting journey. We try our best to set a good example in practicing our faith and instill in our children Christians values. However, it is humbling to realize that there are many lessons our children do not learn from us, for better or worse. That is one reason we choose Our Lady of Mount Carmel School as our village. While it is not perfect, we know that people who share our family values, who care about our children, and who know them as individuals, surround our children each day. Our Catholic school is a community that supports us in raising children. When they leave Mount Carmel they will have an excellent academic foundation, but more importantly they will be more fully formed in our faith and values from the contributions of all in our school "village."
