S ST. PETER JULIAN EYMARD recounts, on August 21, 1888, there were few cures and towards evening a terrible storm prevented the torch-light procession from taking place. At the sight of the saddened, though not discouraged, pilgrims… an inspiration from Heaven had suddenly dawned in the heart of a pious priest. Why not make a procession of the Eucharist among the sick so that they might call upon Him as the people did of old as He

walked the earth in His mortal life? This plan was proposed and accepted. After all, did not the Lady ask that processions be made in that place? The next day, at four in the afternoon, His Eucharistic Majesty was taken in a grand procession out of the Basilica among the faithful with tapers in hand. After Benediction, given at the Grotto, the invocations began, with much pious affection and heart-felt prayer. From all the pallets, from all the beds, from all the vehicles where human infirmity lay prone and suffering and dying… renewing the Gospel pleas of the blind man Bartimaeus: “Lord! if Thou wilt, Thou canst heal me!” And behold… in front

of the Grotto eight of the sick rose up from their beds completely healed! The tears flowed freely as the Magnificat was intoned. From that day… the cures taking place in front of the Blessed Sacrament in procession rose steadily to account for more than one half of all the miraculous cures taking place at the Grotto. Very often the cures began in the waters and were completed at the Procession, showing the intimate connection between the Blessed Lady’s spring and Her Divine Son’s Real Presence in the Host. One of these eight was Nina Klin, a young woman of twenty-two. A container holding twenty-five pints of sulphuric acid had spilled over her, causing deep and damaging burns. The nerves of the leg had been compressed in the scar, and for ten months she had been unable to move at all. Every known treatment was tried…but all in vain… massage, electricity… and so on… produced no results. Leaving the Paris hospitals, she joined a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Nina was twice immersed in the baths without a cure. On the 22nd of August, 1888, she was lying on a mattress in front of the Grotto when His Eucharistic Majesty passed beside her in this first of the processions. She was suddenly lifted up by a violent impulse, and jumping from her bed she broke through the litters that surrounded her and followed the procession with an assured step. Miracle!—Fr. Shannon Collins, MSJB, Pastor.

To dress becomingly for God and neighbor, and in keeping with the reverence due to the Blessed Sacrament, kindly refrain from wearing shorts, tee-shirts, tank-tops, revealing blouses, sleeveless or backless dresses, or form-fitting clothing of any sort. Please do wear dresses and skirts that fall below the knee when seated. With due regard to time and circumstance, all are encouraged to wear decorous attire befitting sacred and divine worship.

Baby Bottles can be dropped off downstairs in the undercroft in designated box. May God reward you!

June is the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart. Please consider attending the 7pm High Mass this Friday, June 23rd, to offer fitting honor and worship to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST NOVENA PRAYERS Days 1, 4, & 7 (starting June 15)

O GLORIOUS ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, greatest prophet among those born of woman, although thou wast sanctified in thy mother’s womb and didst lead a most innocent life, nevertheless it was thy will to retire into the wilderness, there to devote thyself to the practice of austerity and penance; obtain for us of thy Lord the grace to be wholly detached, at least in our hearts, from earthly goods, and to practice Christian mortification with interior recollection and with the spirit of holy prayer. Amen.

Days 2, 5, & 8 O MOST ZEALOUS APOSTLE, who, without working any miracle on others, but solely by the example of thy life of penance and the power of thy word, didst draw after thee the multitudes, in order to dispose them to receive the Messiah worthily and to listen to His heavenly doctrine; grant that it may be given unto us, by means of the example of a holy life and the exercise of every good work, to bring many souls to God, but above all those souls that are enveloped in the darkness of error and ignorance and are led astray by vice. Amen.

Days 3, 6, & 9 O MARTYR INVINCIBLE, who, for the honor of God and the salvation of souls, didst with firmness and constancy withstand the impiety of Herod even at the cost of thine own life, and didst rebuke him openly for his wicked and dissolute life; by thy prayers obtain for us a heart, brave and generous, in order that we may overcome all human respect and openly profess our faith in loyal obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ, our divine Master. Amen.

(end each day by mentioning petitions here)

V. O glorious St. John the Baptist, through the love thou dost bear to Jesus Christ, and for the glory of His Name,

R. Hear our prayers and obtain our petitions. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be…
