5th Sunday of Easter

Happy Mother’s Day

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, the month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary, the Mother of God.

Therefore, it is most appropriate that this is the month for us to honor and to celebrate our mothers with “Mother’s

Day”.

This is a day to honor our mothers and grandmothers and our soon to be mothers. This year ‘Mother’s Day’ is different.

With our continued quarantine and social separation, we cannot have our traditional gatherings for family meals and

parties to celebrate our mothers.

We must be more creative in our celebration. I hope that each of our mom’s will be given something special on this

day. One of the most special and powerful gifts we can give to our mothers, grandmothers and soon to be mothers is

prayer. Why not give them the gift of your prayers on this day. You could say a Rosary in honor of our Blessed

Mother and them. Better yet why not pray the Rosary with them on the phone or on a family video call.

May God bless each of them for the gift of life that they give to their sons and daughters. May our Blessed Mother,

Mary, watch over and protect them and intercede for all their motherly needs.

In these days of the Corona Virus Pandemic let us pray for the finding of a vaccine to cure this virus and return our

lives to normal.

The use of online media for video calls and celebrating works well for many families who are familiar with video

chatting. The drive by visit is another way to celebrate. Drive to see them stay in the car and wave to them and blow

the horn. Be creative in honoring them and create some fun for the whole family.

And for those whose mothers and grandmothers are no longer with us let us remember them in our prayers.

As we continue this time of social separation and quarantine let us take to heart the words of Jesus in our Gospel today,

Jesus tells us: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house

there are many dwelling places . . . I am going to prepare a place for you. . . . I will come back again and take you to

myself.” Jesus has not and never will abandon us. He will always watch over us and protect us.

Every person has been given gifts from the Holy Spirit. These

are called “charisms” and they are used to build God’s kingdom

of earth. While many people are able to recognize their natural

talents and abilities, they may be unsure of their charisms. If

you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give

them a little encouragement. Help them discern their charisms

and how God is calling them to use them. Remember - no gift

is too small or insignificant in God’s salvation plan.

MOTHERS

There are times when only a mother’s love can understand

our tears, and soothe our sadness and calm all of our fears.

There are times when only a Mother’s love can share the

joy we feel when something we have dreamed about quite

suddenly is real.

There are times when only a Mother’s faith can help us on

life’s way and inspire in us the confidence we need from day to

day.

For a Mother’s heart and a Mother’s faith and a Mother’s

steadfast love were fashioned by the Angels and sent from God

above.
