The main goal of the Doctor of Medicine program is to develop professional physicians for the Philippine healthcare system. The graduate of the Doctor of Medicine program is a primary care physician who can pursue general private medical practice after passing the PLE.

After successful completion of the program, graduates are expected to:

1. Competently manage clinical conditions of all patients in various settings

2. Convey information, in written and oral formats, across all types of audiences, venues and media in a manner that can be easily understood.

3. Initiate planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation of programs and health facilities. Provide clear direction, inspiration and motivation to the healthcare team/community.

4. Utilize current research evidence in decision making as practitioner, educator or researcher. Participate in research activities.

5. Effectively work in teams in managing patients, institutions, projects and similar situations.

6. Utilize system-based approach in actual delivery of care. Network with relevant partners in solving general health problems.

7. Update oneself through a variety of avenues for personal and professional growth to ensure quality healthcare and patient safety.

After successful completion of GHSB 101, students are expected to:

1. Acquire a basic knowledge of the gross anatomy of the human body

2. Correlate clinical cases to involved anatomical structures

3. Demonstrate the basic knowledge in anatomy in cadaver dissection.

4. Effectively work as a teams during cadaver dissection and small group discussion.

5. Demonstrate decorum expected from a future medical doctor and display values / attitudes like integrity, respect for other people including cadavers used in dissection.

6. Integrate relevant research work in journals to clinical case discussions.

7. Demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written in small group discussion, cadaver dissection and written reports on clinical cases involving anatomical structures.

Gross Anatomy is an annual subject given to 1st year medical students with 4 hours lecture and 4 hours laboratory/week a total of 10 units/year. It deals with the study of normal morphology and functions of the component organs of the different body systems. It studies also the architecture and interrelation of the different parts of the body obtained by gross dissection of human cadavers. The topics are taken up more or less synchronously with those in the other subjects in the 1st year (Horizontal integration of curriculum)

The course starts with generalities and introduction to

the study of the anatomical structures of the human body.

After which, the different body systems are discussed with

regional consideration and clinical correlation.

Selected clinical cases related to the topics discussed are subjected to small group discussion by these students in the laboratory class supervised by the Gross Anatomy faculty.
