INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK Please contact the parish office.

PRO-LIFE CORNER - “And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe in her womb leapt.” The first person in the world to welcome Jesus, to recognize Him in the womb of His own mother was a child, John the Baptist. How wonderful- God chose a pre-born child to recognize His Son.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners,

It is Gaudete Sunday. The word Gaudete means “Rejoice!”. There is a shift in the focus of the Advent Season from “The Lord is coming,” to “The Lord is near.” There is a lighter mood and a heightened sense of joyous anticipation. We light the rose colored candle on the Advent wreath. Time seems to pick up its momentum. People are looking forward to the festivities of the Holy Days. This past Saturday, the children’s choir of our school came to the 5:00 PM Mass and sang beautifully as well as performed a Christmas pageant after the Mass that included live animals and singing in the street. The celebrations of the Virgen de Caacupé, the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Gua-dalupe this past week were all opportunities for the church to reflect on what happens to us when we allow God to come into our lives. Our Blessed Mother was filled with grace and she helps us from generation to generation to look to her Son for his saving grace as well. May you grow in your ability to welcome Christ as we continue our Advent journey to Christmas.

For all such “seasons of the soul,” an inspiring fellow‐pilgrim is the poet and mys c John of the Cross. As a young Carmelite, he was recruited by Teresa of Ávila for her Discalced (“barefoot,” evan‐gelical poverty) Carmelite reform, striving to renew the Church from within a er the Protestant Reforma on had led countless religious away. John suffered unspeakably harsh abuse, even imprisonment, from friars who rejected this reform. Yet during these mes of deepest suffering, John composed spiritual masterpieces that s ll guide souls to God, their tles reflec ng his own painful yet ul mately victorious journey: from The Dark Night of the Soul through The As‐cent of Mount Carmel to his Spiritual Can cle and The Living Flame of Love. John summarized his spirituality simply: “Put love where there is no love, and you will find love.”

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos Feligreses:

Es Domingo de Gaudete. La palabra Gaudete significa "Regocijo!" Hay un cambio en el enfoque de la temporada de Adviento de "El Señor esta llegando "a" El Señor está cerca". Hay un estado de ánimo más ligero y un mayor sentido de la anticipación gozosa. Encendemos la vela color rosa en la corona de Adviento. Parece que el tiempo toma impulso. La gente está esperando las festividades de los Días Santos. El sábado pasado el coro de los niños de nuestra escuela vinó a la misa de las 5 PM y cantó muy bien y tambien participó en una presentación de la Navidad después de la Misa que incluyó en vivo a varios animales y los niños cantaron por la calle. Las celebraciones de la Virgen de Caacupé, la Inmaculada Concepción y Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de la semana pasada fueron todas oportunidades para que la iglesia reflexione sobre lo que nos pasa cuando permitimos que Dios entre en nuestra vidas. Nuestra Madre Bendita estaba llena de gracia y ella nos ayuda de generación en generación a mirar a su Hijo por su gracia. Ojala que puedan crecer en su capacidad de acoger a Cristo mientras continuamos nuestra jornada salvadora de Adviento hacia la Navidad.

REASON TO REJOICE  

Dark violet is used throughout Advent to express its character as a season of spiritual preparation for Christmas and “the coming of the Lord.” But on the Third Sunday of Advent, formerly known as Gaudete (Latin for “rejoice”) Sunday, rose may be added to the liturgical environment. The entire liturgy is infused with a spirit of rejoicing.   

Today’s first reading and Gospel proclaim the reality of God’s saving work in our midst. Isaiah exuberantly describes the idyllic transformation of all creation as a result of God’s presence in the midst of the people. In the Gos-pel, Jesus connects Isaiah’s prophecy with what is happening in his own ministry. In addition to the list of healings from Isaiah (the blind, the lame, lepers, and the deaf), Jesus’ presence brings two other reasons for rejoicing: “The dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them” (Matthew 11:5).  REASON TO REJOICE  

El color morado se usa durante el Adviento para expresar el carácter de este tiempo de preparación espiritual para la Navidad y la “venida del Señor”. Pero en el Tercer Domingo de Adviento, anteriormente conocido como Do-mingo Gaudete (“regocijo” en latín), se puede agregar el color rosa al ambiente litúrgico. Toda la liturgia está impreg-nada de regocijo. La primera lectura de hoy y el Evangelio proclaman la realidad de la obra salvadora de Dios entre nosotros. Isaías de-scribe con exuberancia la idílica transformación de toda la creación como resultado de la presencia de Dios en medio de su pueblo. En el Evangelio, Jesús vincula la profecía de Isaías con lo que está ocurriendo en su propio ministerio. Además de lista de curaciones de Isaías (los ciegos, los cojos, los leprosos y los sordos), la presencia de Jesús ofrece otras dos razones para regocijarnos: “Los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les anuncia el Evangelio” (Mateo 11:5).

Estos regalos son para aproximadamente 300 niños de familias de pocos recursos que vendrán a la despensa a recoger el Mercado el 21 de diciembre.
