third sunday of lent / 30 domingo de cuaresma 3

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,This Third Sunday of Lent and the next two Sundays there are two options for scripture readings. Since our parish has catechumens and candidates (now called Elect) preparing to enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, we use the Cycle “A” readings at the Mass where we celebrate the lenten scrutinies. The Cycle “C” readings are used at the other Sunday Masses. The lenten scrutinies are special rites celebrated

on the last three Sundays of Lent at Masses where the Elect are present. The Elect are those preparing for Baptism or non-Catholic Christians preparing to make their profession of faith. Their lenten journey includes being received among us in the Rite of Acceptance and to be enrolled in the Book of the Elect in the Rite of Election.Even if these rites are not celebrated at the Mass we attend, it can be wonderful to reflect on the journey these Elect are making during Lent, as an inspiration and source of renewal for us in our own journey of faith. The lenten scrutinies are ancient rites and they are profoundly rooted in our human experience. We all need to examine (scrutinize) the areas of our lives where we are tempted or fall into seriously sin through what we do and what we fail to do. We are in need of healing, pardon and the strength that comes from the support we receive from our sisters and brothers in Christ.

Catholic Men’s Fellowship

Join us as we prepare for the celebra-tion of Christ’s saving death and resur-rection at Easter when He opened the door to eternal life. May our Lenten journey together help us to walk through that door in union with Jesus, the Christ, our Lord. We are an informal group of men who discuss topics about Faith, Fatherhood, and Fraternity through Catholic eyes. We meet in McGowan Hall the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings of each month and the 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings, too. Our casual settings allow us to share modern issues that are sometimes up-close and personal. Contact Gil Manalo [email protected] or Jim Ryder [email protected]
