WHERE’S MY BEACH CHAIR?

New this year, we can now lock our chairs and lounges onto the fencing behind the Bar & Grill inside the south end of

the parking lot. In this way, we’ll help to keep the sea wall on the beach looking fresh and tidy.

WHERE CAN I FIND A CHARCOAL GRILL?

Also new this year, we have two charcoal grills located in the “Ruins” (our picnic and BBQ area) with lots of nice picnic

tables for owners and renters to use. Users should bring charcoal, lighter fluid, cooking utensils, and favorite foods for

grillin’. If you rent your condo, please let guests know that we should also be responsible for cleaning up the picnic area

after use. Before use, make sure you reserve a grill by signing up on the reservation form posted on the bulletin board

located near building 1&2 elevators. Finally, before vacating the picnic area, scrape off the grates, close the grill covers,

and let the charcoals burn out during the night. In the morning, as a courtesy to the next user, push charcoal ashes into

the collection bin beneath the grates. Have fun and enjoy!

NEW LOOK, NEW STORIES, NEW TIMES I am very excited to introduce Stacy Shrader as the new Editor of the Coral Beach community newsletter. Stacy has kindly volunteered his time to the newsletter, keeping CB owners informed and up to date on what’s happening in and around Coral Beach. Stacy has been an owner here at CB since 2009 and dedicates his time not only to Coral Beach, but is an active volunteer of the “Outreach Program” delivering food and clothing to Freeport’s people in need. Looking back over the past several years since the first newsletter in 2008, so many positive changes have taken place at Coral Beach and every year it just keeps getting better! CB is a very unique and close community where I have been fortunate enough to meet some of my best friends and I know they will be with me for a life time. Yes, we have some challenges to face (not to mention lawsuits) but the majority of people here are good, want what’s best for CB and are happy to call Freeport our second home in paradise. Please join me in welcoming Stacy as the new editor and I will continue on as a contributing editor for the newsletter. Thank you for your support and happy reading! Best Regards, Nanci Salvisburg

RECENT ENGAGEMENTS MADE ON THE BEACH—

Some romance on the beach makes the Coral Beach area the perfect place to propose

marriages. Mr. Ralph Montana, Jr., son of regular renters Ralph & Arlene Montana, proposed marriage to Gina

Setteducato recently at Banana Bay as they enjoyed a short escape from the winter north. Likewise, Mr. Greg Cameron

asked his future father-in-law, Mike Bonvarlez (and wife Gale), for their blessing before asking their daughter Kate’s

hand in marriage just before celebrating a huge 30-member Bonvarlez family reunion here on the beach in mid-March.

DID YOU MISS “ELVIS” the disc jockey?

On February 23rd, a crowd of maybe a hundred or more gathered for a fun-filled evening of enjoyment- dancing, eating,

drinking, and relaxation under the night sky at the Coral Beach Bar & Grill. Happy Hour lasted till 10pm, and though Elvis

was not an impersonator, he sure played up some good sounds and pulled out a 50/50 Drawing winning ticket! This was

a HUGE success! And, some photos are highlighted on the next page where you can see Elvis drawing the winning

50/50 ticket for Nancy Cole who sold tickets while others danced under the stars!

AND WHO WON THE 50/50 DRAWING?

At the Elvis party, Eddie from TV’s “Love or List It” won 50% and the other 50% helped pay for Elvis our “DJ”. Congrats to

Eddie and thanks to all who participated!

WHAT’S ON MY BALCONY?

Remember- If you rent your condo, please let your renters know not to use balconies for hanging clothes or other items

on outside railings - that’s not permitted for what should be obvious reasons. And remember to REMOVE all furniture

and other fixtures from your balcony when leaving for the season due to the possibility of hurricanes and tropical

storms. That should seem obvious too!

EVER BEEN TO ELEUTHERA?

Early in March five CB owners did some island hopping to visit Eleuthera and the famed “pink sand” beaches of Harbor

Island. Although the five-day trip was a relaxing get-a-way, the group found the pink sand not quite as pink as photos

appear. But the beach was truly magnificent and the sand did possess a pink hew with a cooling texture that seemed

different from other beaches around our Grand Bahama island. The Friday night Fish Fry in Governors Harbor was also

unique with dancing in the streets hosted by friendly local Bahamians welcoming the many tourists who didn’t want to

miss this “must see” experience. A rental car is also a “must” for anyone wanting to visit the various settlements of

Eleuthera which are spread far apart on this long narrow 100+ mile western island of the Bahama Bank. Visitors can fly

into one of three airports on the island or you can take a boat from Nassau. And for anyone interested in researching

Eleuthera a bit more, there’s an interactive map that’s helpful in planning a trip at www.eleuthera-map.com.

DID YOU MISS THE AGM DINNER?

What a great meal! On February 21st the dinner went on as scheduled though the meeting was postponed a week.

Hubert collected funds to donate to a local charity along with school supplies and other gifts that owners brought to the

collection table. Two meeting rooms were filled to capacity with owners “breaking bread” that the Coral Beach Bar &

Grill staff prepared for us – Yum! Even little Evy (Don & Patty’s Granddaughter) enjoyed the party…

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS?

Occasionally seen on our beach, the Portuguese man o' war, or bluebottle, is not a jelly fish but often compared to

one. Its venomous tentacles can deliver a painful sting. It lives at the surface of the ocean. The gas-filled bladder

remains at the surface, while the remainder is submerged. It has no means of propulsion but moves by a combination of

winds. Strong winds may drive them onto beaches.

WARN OTHER PEOPLE ON THE BEACH about the man-o-war – they must be treated with caution. If you touch them,

the stinging venom-filled tentacles usually cause severe pain to humans leaving whip-like red welts on the skin that

normally last two or three days even though the pain should subside after about an hour. But a sting may lead to an

allergic reaction.

There can also be serious effects, including fever, shock, and interference with heart and lung function. Stings may also

cause death although this is extremely rare.

Medical attention may be necessary, especially if pain persists or is intense, or if the rash worsens, or if a feeling of

overall illness develops.

Treatment for man-o-war stings include:

avoid further contact apply salt water to the affected area (not fresh water) follow up with the application of hot water to the affected area for 15-20 minutes (eases pain better than cold

water) if eyes have been affected, irrigate with copious amounts of room-temperature tap water for at least 15 minutes.

If vision blurs or the eyes continue to water or hurt, swell, or show light sensitivity after irrigating, seek medical attention as soon as possible

Vinegar is NOT recommended for treating stings as it increases toxin delivery and worsens symptoms.

OTHER BABBLE FROM AROUND THE BEACH-

CORAL BEACH POOL BAR AND GRILL After many bumps along the way (well, hurdles actually) our funky pool bar and grill carries on serving great food, delicious drinks and a 4 pm Happy Hour that brings friends and family together every day. We’ve had a few great parties, thanks to Nancy Cole, Yolanda Morandini, and Claire Grimmer who have arranged Elvis the DJ and brought in crowds of people for dancing and fun times. The pool bar is open from 12 noon to 8 pm, 7 days a week with later hours during “high season”. The food is top notch and of course you are welcome to order “take away” if you just want to relax in your home. The phone number for the pool bar is 602 5606.

EVER BEEN TO “NIPPERS”?

Great Guana Cay is a quaint little island settlement in the Abacos, and some of our owners have island hopped there.

The quickest way to get there from CB is by air into Marsh Harbor or Treasure Cay. Then, rent a boat or hire a water taxi

to easily explore and find Nippers, a fun place to spend a few hours and enjoy their signature cocktail, a Nipper!

Another travel option is to drive to the east end of Grand Bahama, take a boat taxi to the north end of Abaco mainland

and taxi or bus to Treasure Cay, then rent a boat or water taxi to Nippers. On Sunday afternoons, they host a pig roast

for visitors too! Check out these two web-sites for lots more info: www.nippersbar.com - www.abacos.com .

DO YOU KNOW WHERE THIS IS?

A blast from the past… The old Holiday Inn and the Sheraton hotel in the late 70’s -

But now it’s the location of Memories and the Grand Lucayan…

And speaking of the “Grand Lucayan”, it was the perfect location for a GRAND wedding celebration hosted by Mr. Frank

Bruno and wife Rosemary along with daughter Daniela and new husband Mr. Andrew Kemp. After several days of family

and friends gathering around Coral Beach, the week culminated with a beautiful ceremony and reception at the Grand…

Finally - BUT NOT LEAST…. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY SHIRLEY BLAINE

Shirley Blaine celebrated her 80th birthday on the 7

th of February at Sabor’s… HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY GAL!

And Coming Soon…

In the next edition, watch for other news that was “in progress”

when we closed out this edition including highlights of our St.

Patrick’s Day celebration, the Bonvarlez Family Reunion, our Coral

Beach Golf Outing, and other fun and exciting beach babble…
