Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 59th season! (we don’t look a year over 50, do we????) As you have come to expect, I love to program an enticing and varied “buffet” of repertoire for you to enjoy: balancing familiar and unfamiliar, lyrical and dancelike, powerful and introspective. And all of it performed with commitment and the joy of sharing our love for music with you.
Our concerts this year will highlight important influences in the development of wind bands over history: military bands, brass bands, orchestral transcriptions, and, of course, original works from the 20th and 21st centuries. I am particularly excited to introduce you to guest soloist, Jim Cornelison, the full-time national anthem singer for the Chicago Blackhawks, in a very special concert celebrating Veterans Day.
This season will also mark the beginning of a wonderful musical exchange for NCB. The Westchester Symphonic Winds from Westchester County, New York, will perform on our June concert, and NCB will travel to New York in 2016 to perform on one of their concerts. The Westchester Symphonic Winds is an outstanding ensemble that I have had the pleasure of conducting several times, and their conductor, Curt Ebersole, is a former member of the Northshore Concert Band! I am thrilled to welcome him home, form a bond with WSW, and share our music with you.
Please join us and bring a friend! Yours,
Mallory Thompson Artistic Director Northshore Concert Band
