OTTWA DEPOT NEW WORKSHOP FOR CITY FLEET Address: 30 Tottenham Road Ottawa Ward: 102 Client: eThekwini City Fleet Contract Period: March 2017 – Aug 2019 Contract Value: R37 million City Fleet has successfully expanded their existing Northern Ottawa workshop to double the capacity of the workshop area and create necessary improvements to the staff facilities (changerooms and canteen). The linking administrative component between old and new workshops facilitates better integration of administrative and technical staff and upgraded equipment allows for increased productivity. The new development has installed rainwater harvesting to conserve water used for building and vehicle cleaning. In a pilot, the building contract included a budget for on- site accredited training of local construction workers in their preferred skills. Thirty people received certificates in a range of construction fields (OHS and scaffold erection) and this leaves a legacy of skills in the ward which can assist in future capital works as well as improve job opportunities for trainees who gathered practical application of their classroom training in building this workshop.

OTTWA DEPOT NEW WORKSHOP FOR

CITY FLEET

Address: 30 Tottenham Road Ottawa Ward: 102 Client: eThekwini City Fleet Contract Period: March 2017 – Aug 2019 Contract Value: R37 million

City Fleet has successfully expanded their existing

Northern Ottawa workshop to double the capacity of the

workshop area and create necessary improvements to the

staff facilities (changerooms and canteen).

The linking administrative component between old and

new workshops facilitates better integration of

administrative and technical staff and upgraded

equipment allows for increased productivity.

The new development has installed rainwater harvesting

to conserve water used for building and vehicle cleaning.

In a pilot, the building contract included a budget for on-

site accredited training of local construction workers in

their preferred skills. Thirty people received certificates in

a range of construction fields (OHS and scaffold erection)

and this leaves a legacy of skills in the ward which can

assist in future capital works as well as improve job

opportunities for trainees who gathered practical

application of their classroom training in building this

workshop.
