Counselor’s Corner Hello! My name is Megan Franklin and I am the school counselor at Northwest Expedition Academy. I am super excited to begin a new adventure and am so looking forward to our many upcoming expedi-tions! I have been the counselor at Fernan STEM Academy for the past five years. Prior to that, I worked as an elemengary and middle school counselor in West Lafayette, Indiana. I grew up in Spokane, attend-ed the University of Idaho for undergraduate school and then received my masters degree in counsel-ing from Purdue University. In my free time, I like to play my trumpet, swim, read, hike and spend time with my friends and family. My job as a school counselor is to help build a positive school climate where every student feels safe, confident and valued. I do not provide private therapy sessions, but rather try to reach every student in the building through classroom lessons where I teach pro-social skills such as conflict resolution and how to be assertive. I'm also available for problem solving with individual students or small groups of students. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child. My extension is 1916 and my email address [email protected]. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with all the families of Northwest Expedition Academy.

Message from the School Nurse

Your child’s health and the health of all the School District students is very important to us. If at any time your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition that could potentially impact the health of other students please provide to the school documentation from your child’s health care provider. This note will be given to the nurse who will use the information to track conditions and determine if notification to other student’s families is necessary. School Health Services can-not send out notifications without appropriate verification of contagious conditions. Summer is full of sleep-over fun, but something that is not so fun is getting head lice! Head lice are spread through direct head to head contact, mainly through co-sleeping. Head lice do not spread disease and are not a public health concern, they are just really annoying. Even though re-search shows the risk of getting head lice at school is low, School Health Services wants to assist you in getting rid of these pests. View our very own You Tube video to learn the best way to check your child for head lice at Wetcomb Demonstration. Go to our website for all the scientifically prov-en ways to get rid of head lice: cdaschools.org then under “Departements”, “School Health Ser-vices” and “Head Lice Information”.
