PRESS RELEASE (Vaughan, ON –August 13, 2012)

Kiniry and Grey in top form at Sand Del Lee

Team Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry and Richard Grey were in top form at

the penultimate round of the CMRC Motocross Nationals at Sand Del Lee in Richmond, ON this

past Sunday.

Although the track had been thoroughly soaked by torrential rains Thursday and Friday, when

the first MX2 moto got underway on Sunday it was race ready. While the surrounding area got

more rain on Sunday, Sand Del Lee was spared the wet stuff; heat and humidity proved to be the

order of the day.

In keeping with a perfect podium record so far this season, Kiniry recorded his 4th 3rd overall in

the MX1 title hunt on the strength of 2-3 motos. Grey pulled out all the stops to nail down 5th

overall in the MX2 class, thanks to 10-5 motos. It was Grey’s second top-5 overall finish this

season.

An on-fire Kiniry nailed the first moto holeshot and led the freight train until just past the

halfway mark, when an error caused him to stall his bike. Fortunately he had enough of a lead

built up that he only lost two positions, rejoining the fray in 3rd place, albeit some 20 seconds

behind Matt Goerke, now in first, and Dusty Klatt in second.

Undaunted, Kiniry powered his

YZ450F into full attack mode and

towards the end of the moto he had

caught up to Klatt. With two laps to

go, he displaced Klatt from 2nd, but

with time running out he was unable to

challenge Goerke to retake the lead.

In the second moto, Kiniry got a

mediocre start, spinning out of the gate

and reaching the first corner around

10th place. By this time the track had

pretty well turned into a one-line

affair, which made passing risky and

difficult.

Kiniry, however, was not about to settle for a finish outside the top-3. He rode a calculated race

that saw him pick off a number of riders including fellow American MX1 heavyweights Gavin

Gracyk, Tyler Villopoto, and Joshua Clark.

By the time the checkered flag was waved Kiniry had installed himself in 3rd place and with it a

guaranteed 3rd overall for his effort.

“I’d have to consider it a good day with 2-3 motos. I had to work for them but the main thing is I

kept my top-3 overall finishes intact for the past 8 rounds,” Kiniry said.

In the first MX2 moto, Grey took his YZ250F to an excellent start, diving into the first corner in

the top-3. By the second corner he had the lead in hand, but in the heat of handlebar-banging

action he caught a haybale a few corners later and went down.

When he rejoined the race he was in dead last, however, an unenviable position considering

where he started. With every intention of redeeming himself, Grey put his head down and

commenced to dispose of rider after rider to finish the moto in a respectable 10th place.

A top-10 start in the second moto put Grey in good position to stay in the mix and race for a

single digit finish. Battling with the likes of Jarred Allison, Brad Nauditt, and Topher Ingalls he

worked his way into 4th by the halfway point.

Ingalls, who is 3rd in the championship points chase, eventually got 4th place back from Grey,

but when the checkered was waved Grey crossed the line in 5th, giving him a well-deserved 5th

overall on the day.

“It’s unfortunate that the first moto ended up in a catch-up race for me. I might have finished 4th

overall or better, but I’m happy with 5th. I rode hard today and was rewarded with a good result.

That’s what really counts,” Grey said.

Although the final round this Sunday at Walton, ON will

be little more than a formality as far as the top-5

rankings in the 2012 MX1 Championship are concerned,

the points spread in the MX2 top-5 is close enough that

the contenders will need to give it all they have to finish

where they are after 8 of 9 rounds.

Kiniry, who won Walton in 2010, will be going

especially hard to see if he can join the elite club of

riders who have won the event more than once.

For Richard Grey, Walton will also be an important race,

as it will determine whether or not he finishes the season

with a top-10 ranking.

He currently holds down 9th, holding a scant 1 point

over 10th place Dylan Kaelin and 4 over 11th place Kyle

Beaton. Spencer Knowles, who’s residing in 8th place,

has a 5-point margin on Grey.
