What is tftpd32?

tftpd32 is;

• Go get it at http://tftpd32.jounin.net

• Portable application that you can carry around on a portable storage media

• From website

• Tftpd32 includes DHCP, TFTP, DNS, SNTP and Syslog servers as well as a TFTP client.

• The TFTP client and server are fully compatible with TFTP option support (tsize, blocksize and timeout), which allow the maximum performance when transferring the data.

• Some extended features such as directory facility, security tuning, interface filtering; progress bars and early acknowledgments enhance usefulness and throughput of the TFTP protocol for both client and server.

• The included DHCP server provides unlimited automatic or static IP address assignment. 

• Tftpd32 is also provided as a Windows service.

Why use tftpd32?

tftpd32 can be used for the following tasks;• Upgrading software on tftp devices (routers, switches)• When you need a tftp client to test tftp transfers• Environments where you need a dhcp server • Basic DNS testing• Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) time server testing

Getting to Know tftpd32

• tftpd32 is a straight forward to use program which requires basic knowledge to get started.

• The numbered points on the diagram are;

1. Current Directory:

• Referenced when using tftp and PXE

2. Server Interface:

• Important to ensure this is the correct IP address

3. Application Tabs:

• Only enabled services will have a Tab available

4. Settings:

• Used to configure the software( ie, enable services)

Settings

Base Directory

• This must be a valid directory for tftp/PXE operation

Global Settings

• These are the services that are currently enabled

• Any change to this requires to restart the application

DHCP Options

• Ping Address ….o Some devices or Operating systems

have issues responding to a ping and you may have to disable this option

• Persistant leaseso Many times letting the device keep the

assigned IP address is fine.

DHCP server

• Will work if your ip is static or DHCP assigned

• Will still assign an IP even if the ip addressing/subnet is incorrect

• No options were modified from the settings screen

• Used to monitor the current status of any tftp’s

• Current file directory is displayed

• Many of you may get an error message when trying to use the SNTP server

• To fix this, simply disable your Windows Time Service
