Class Placements: Request for class placements for the 2019-2020 year are now open. Please see below in this newsletter the procedure for how to request a placement for your child. Junior Lego Robotics: Begins tomorrow. Students in Grades 4 & 5 can learn the basics of computer programming and robot design. Fridays 3:20-4:45. Permission forms available from Mr. Izzo. OPPS Track and Field: The OPPS track and field date is on May 27 at Stouffville Area - (rain date) on May 28. We welcome the support of our parent community to help ensure the event runs smoothly. Mayor Lovatt visits OPPS
This week, the grade 7’s and grade 8’s participated in a swing dancing workshop. During the swing dancing workshop, a dance instructor came and introduced the concept of swing dance. The grade 7’s and 8’s then learned some common moves and practised them in partners to a couple of songs. The boys would dance with the girls and every couple of minutes, the girls would rotate to dance with another boy. The grade 7’s and 8’s had a wonderful time learning and practising during the swing dancing workshop! On Wednesday, the YTC (Your the Chef) club taught some of the grade 5s and 6s to cook some delicious food like pizzadillas, banana shakes and muffins. Though these food are delicious they are also super healthy! The YTC program will happen once or twice more in May or June. Hope your enjoy eating the healthy food your kids will prepare. This week Ms. Giancoulos’ Grade 5s and Ms. McIntyre’s Grade 1s had a special visit from our Mayor Iain Lovatt. The students enjoyed participating in thoughtful discussion about being a mayor and some political basics.
On Wednesday, April 24th, our school had a Dress Like A Royal day! Students were encouraged to dress like their favourite part of the royal families. We had students and staff dressed up as princesses, princes, kings and queens and the Kansas City Royals baseball players.
Ms. Woodcroft’s class completed their arthropod dioramas! They look amazing!

As we create our classes for next year, our staff will make every effort to place students in the best learning environment for each student to be successful. We take into account individual needs, academic achievement, emotional and social development, number of boys and girls in each class, and work habits. If parents would like to provide input into this process for their child(ren), we ask that you please submit this input in writing to Mr. Shabbar and Ms. Legros by May 24, 2019. We ask that you please ensure a copy is sent to your child’s present classroom teacher. The school does not accept requests for specific teachers. While your input is carefully considered, the final decision about the students’ class placement rests with the school. Our Class Organization for the 2019-2020 school year is included below:

The York Region District School Board will once again be offering a Grade 6, 7 & 8 Summer School program. This 14 day program is designed to reinforce curriculum. Students must register in the program for their current school grade as this is not an acceleration program. For example, a grade 7 student would register for the grade 7 program as it reinforces grade 7 content.
The program will operate from July 2 to July 19, 2019 (8:45 am - 3:25 pm). Please note that Keswick H.S. times are 8:45 am - 3:33 pm. A typical day has Language and Numeracy instruction in the morning with Arts based programming in the afternoon. There are both lunch and recess breaks during the day. Students will need to bring a lunch, snacks and plenty to drink each day.
The following programs will be offered:
• Language and Math reinforcement for students who do not have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or an English Language Learner (ELL) designation.
• Language and Math reinforcement for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). • English Language Learner (ELL) Language for students who are ELL Stage 1 or 2 learners. The focus is
on reading, writing and speaking.

Hello All,
We are happy to let you all know that we are doing another fundraiser in memory of our Jaylen Williams. Please see the attached flyer.
As you may know, Jaylen had an opportunity through Make-A-Wish, and having his wish come true brightened the last few months of his life. Jaylen passed away May 2016 with a thankful heart. Jaylen always had a strong desire to help others so, through Play for Jay, we are helping make wishes come true in Jaylen's memory.
We have a big venue, however, there has been an amazing amount of interest from Jaylen's soccer family already for this event. This will be a well-attended event with dinner, fun entertainment, music, a silent auction and much, much more so we are hoping the Gala will sell out pretty quickly. For this reason, please confirm your attendance and the number of seats that you may need as soon as possible. I will have the tickets ready by late next week and will be happy to make arrangements to get them to anyone interested.
