The primary change to both the major and the minor involves the recently approved Course Change and New Course requests submitted by the Department of Entomology. The Course Change request for ENTMLGY 4000 involved the removal of the laboratory component and addition of content to address increased breadth of information in the field, maintaining the course at 3 credits. The New Course request for ENTMLGY 4001 provides the laboratory experiences that were removed from ENTMLGY 4000 in a separate course, providing some flexibility in scheduling for students and adding 1 credit to the major course requirements in the major. This additional credit is accommodated by a reduction by 1 credit in the required elective credits in the major. Additionally, ENTMLGY 4001 is an elective option for students in the minor. In addition to the described course changes and adjustment in credit hour distribution in the major, electives in both the major and the minor were adjusted to provide students more options and remove courses that are no longer offered. These changes are proposed to better meet the needs and interests of the students, provide some flexibility in scheduling and address the different curricular needs of students in the major and the minor.

Ms. Jeanne Osborne, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs 100 Agricultural Administration 2120 Fyffe Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43210 11 January 2019; modified 23 January 2019 Dear Ms. Osborne, The Department of Entomology, within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, currently offers an undergraduate major in Entomology. Several revisions in the undergraduate major in Entomology were recently approved by CAA, on 19 September 2018. We now have additional changes that we would like to make. We are submitting this program change request to accompany some course changes. A course change request is being submitted to change our current course in General Entomology (ENTMLGY 4000) from a 3-credit lecture-and-lab course to become a 3- credit lecture-only course, and we are submitting a new course request for a 1-credit General Entomology Laboratory course (ENTMLGY 4001). Those changes, once approved, will affect our current undergraduate major, thus our need to make this program request. We propose that the undergraduate major program will require one additional credit hour in core courses, and will require one less credit hour in the elective entomology courses, thus the total credit hours in the major will remain the same. A second change in the program is simply to add two more elective courses within the category of applied entomology courses, for a new course that was recently approved: ENTMLGY 5609: Landscape Ornamental Plant Insect and Mite Pests – Identification, Biology, and Management, and for one course that was recently approved for modifications: ENTMLGY 5605: Vector Biology and Vector-Borne Diseases. The attached three documents show the current program as of 2018, the current program that is marked to show proposed revisions, and the proposed program. The proposed revisions would take effect Autumn Semester 2019. We would appreciate your consideration of this program request. Sincerely,
Dr. Carol Anelli Professor and Interim Chair Department of Entomology

Ms. Jeanne Osborne, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs 100 Agricultural Administration 2120 Fyffe Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43210 11 January 2019 Dear Ms. Osborne, The Department of Entomology, within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, currently offers an undergraduate minor in Entomology. Several revisions in the undergraduate minor in Entomology were made in October 2015. We now have additional changes that we would like to make. We are submitting this program change request to accompany some course change requests. A course change request is being submitted to change our current course in General Entomology (ENTMLGY 4000) from a 3-credit lecture-and-lab course to become a 3-credit lecture-only course, and we are submitting a new course request for a separate 1-credit General Entomology Laboratory course (ENTMLGY 4001). Those changes, once approved, will affect our current undergraduate minor, thus our need to make this program request. We propose that the undergraduate minor program will require only the lecture course, which will be the revised ENTMLGY 4000. The lab course, ENTMLGY 4001, will be an elective that is recommended but not required for the minor. The total credit hours in the minor will remain the same 12 credit hours as before. Other changes in the program are: 1) to remove the name of one of the advisors, who has retired, 2) to remove nine elective courses that are no longer being offered, and 3) to add three elective courses that have been approved since the last revisions in the minor, as well as adding the new ENTMLGY 4001 laboratory course that is currently going through the approval process. The attached three documents show the current program as of 2018, the current program that is marked to show proposed revisions, and the proposed program. The proposed revisions would take effect Autumn Semester 2019. We would appreciate your consideration of this program request. Sincerely,

Restrictions and General Information 1. This minor is not available to students majoring in Plant Health Management or Entomology. 2. A minor should be declared by the time a student accumulates 60 hours. 3. A minimum 2.00 cumulative point-hour ratio is required in the minor course work; and a minimum grade of a C- is required for each course used to complete the minor. 4. A student is permitted to overlap up to 6 credit hours between the GE and the minor. 5. The minor must contain a minimum of 12 credit hours distinct from the major and/or additional minors (i.e. if a minor requires more than 12 credit hours, a student is
permitted to overlap those hours beyond 12 with the major or with another minor). 6. The minor must include at least 6 hours of upper-level or upper-division course work (3000 or above). 7. Course work graded Pass/Non-Pass cannot count in the minor, and no more than 3 credit hours of course work graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory may count toward the
minor. 8. No more than 3 credit hours of xx93 may count toward the minor. 9. A student is permitted to count up to 6 total hours of transfer credit and/or credit by examination.
