Welcome back to term three. Students have returned to school very well prepared and happy with
lots of awesome stories about their wonderful holiday experiences.
Thank you to parents who participated in Under 8’s day at Rolleston. The Rolleston State School
staff and students did an excellent job preparing an exciting and stimulating day for all children who
attended.
This term we are again focusing on writing strategies with the emphasis on children investigating a
range of cultural stories and reconstructing and creating retells in the narrative format with emphasis
on precise vocabulary, verb and noun groups.
Our science this term focuses on the weather and universe. Children in prep and year one are
investigating the observable features of a variety of landscapes and skies. They are investigating the
effects of changes in the environment and landscape have on themselves and other living things.
Year two and three students will use their understanding of the movement of the Earth to suggest
explanations for day, night, sunrise, sunset and shadows. Year four, five and six students will describe
the key features of our solar system including planets and stars. They will also investigate the
scientific developments that have affected people's lives.
Students in years four, five and six will be investigating the way legal and environmental issues are
managed in Australian Communities. Year two and three students will study the impact of
technology in our community. Prep and year one students will investigate the importance of personal
space and caring for their personal environment.
August shall be a very busy month with plans which include the whole school participating in the arts
council performance ’Heidi Hodeo’s Circus Rodeo’ in Springsure and our year four, five and six
students participating in the sports camp at Clermont as well as joining the Capricornia School of
Distance Education
Students for their educational camp to Brisbane.
We are looking forward to enjoying an exciting and productive term three.
Yours in Teaching

2018 School Opinion Survey
This year’s School Opinion
Survey will be conducted 30
July to 24 August 2018.
The suite of School Opinion
Surveys is undertaken each
year by the Department of
Education, State Schools
Division to obtain opinion
information from all families,
school staff and a random
sample of students.
The surveys will help our
school to find out what we
are doing well, and how we
can improve.
Links to the surveys are
available on the School Opin-
ion Survey website.
All families will have the
opportunity to complete the
Parent/Caregiver Survey with
survey access details to be
sent home to every family in
the school. The survey is
anonymous, and the results
are not reported in ways that
an individual’s response can
be identified by the school.
