REHABILITATION OF AN ISOLATED SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE AND ITS HISTORICAL RESTITUATION ACORDING TO THE ORIGINAL PROJECT OF THE ARCHITECT F. J. BARBA CORSINI

“The Zariquiey house, built by the architect Barba Corsini in 1957, means one of the first experiments in modern architecture that were made in Cadaqués. It can be affirmed that it is the only construction made in Cadaqués without “Coderchianas” influences and with re modern architecture, as its unic language. The architect was interested in finding a place within the site itself as high and protected as possible, from which all the land is dominated and from which the best views from the Cadaqués’s bay were reached . Anchoring the house as good as posible to the land, satisfy the demands of the clients - a single storey house - and, at the same time, absorbing the irregularities of the land, forced the architect to build a base so that the building, instead of being directly supported on the ground, was supported on a small platform built with Cadaqués stone on which the roof could be raised ... The stone wall goes beyond the boundaries of the house and delimits the surface of the terrace, which will be bounded not only by said wall, but also by the cover itself. “ “La casa Zariquiey, construida por el arquitecto Barba Corsini en el año 1957, construye uno de los primeros experimentos de arquitectura moderna que se hicieron en Cadaqués. Se puede afirmar que es la única construcción realizada en Cadaqués sin influen-cias “coderchianas” y con referencias a la arquitectura moderna, como su único lenguaje. Al arquitecto le interesó encontrar un lugar dentro del propio solar lo más elevado y protegido posible, desde el cual se dominara todo el terreno y se alcanzasen las mejores vistas dentro de la bahía de Cadaqués. Anclar bien la casa al terreno, cumplir con las exigencias de los propios clientes -vivienda de una sola planta- y, a la vez absorver las irregularidades del terreno, obligó al arquitecto a construir una base para que el edificio, en lugar de apoyarse directamente en el suelo, lo hiciera sobre una pequeña plataforma construida con piedra de Cadaqués sobre la cual se podía levantar la cubierta... El muro de piedra sobrepasa los límites de la vivienda y delimita la superfície de la terraza la cual, quedará acotada no solo por dicho muro, sino también por la propia cubierta.” - *(2)
