Installation timeThe installation time is approx. 1.5 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and its equip-ment package.

Important informationThese installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by au-thorised BMW service companies.These installation instructions are intended for use by qualified specialist staff trained on BMW cars with the rele-vant expert knowledge.All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and workinstructions, in a logical order, using the prescribed tools (special tools), and observing current health and safetyregulations.If it is too bright outside, the illuminated front ornamental grilles remain non-functional. In order to test their func-tionality, cover up the light sensor in the instrument cluster.

If you experience installation or functional problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hoursfor mechanical work and 1.0 hour for electrical work.In case of functional problems check whether the outside temperature sensor works properly.To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support teamvia the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).Quote the following information:– VIN,– retrofit kit part number,– a detailed description of the problem,– any work already carried out.Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions, since daily updates are supplied in ASAP!

Connect branch A1, SW 12-pin socket housing, toCAN interface B.Secure CAN interface B using cable tie K to a suit-able point in the front passenger footwell.

! Ensure that when you drill you do not damageany cables in the car.

Move the passenger side footwell mat to one side.Drill a hole in the rubber grommet (1) at the mark (2)with a Ø 8 mm drill bit.

Route branches A10-A13 from the front passengerside footwell to the engine compartment.Seal rubber grommet (1) so that it is watertight usingusual workshop products.

Connect branches A10-A13 as follows to sockethousing F:– Branch A10, RT/BL cable, to PIN 1– Branch A11, BR cable, to PIN 2– Branch A12, RT/BL cable, to PIN 1– Branch A13, BR cable, to PIN 2

It must be ensured that the cables (1) are not damaged while being routed.

Route cables (1) from front ornamental grille C and D through openings (2) of the air flaps as illustrated above.Install front ornamental grilles C and D in the bumper trim.

It must be ensured that the cables (1 and 2) do not come in contact with the actuator mechanism while be-ing routed.

Connect cable ties with holders K to the cross-struts (5).Route cables (1 and 2) of the front ornamental grilles as shown:– Route cable (1) upwards through the left slot (3) of the rubber grommet– Route cable (2) upwards through the right slot (4) of the rubber grommet– Fasten cables (1 and 2) to cable ties with holders K

Route retrofit cable kit A along the vehicle wiring harness to the extent possible and secure it with cable tieJ.

Route cables of the front ornamental grilles C and D to the plug F installation point of the retrofit cable kit A andsecure them in the right-side area of the bonnet lock using cable tie J.Connect plug F to plug (1) on front ornamental grilles C and D.Secure cables of the retrofit wiring harness A with cable ties J.

6. Installing and connecting the button

Draw on the drilling point (1) on the steering columntrim lower section (2) as per the dimensions.Drill through the drilling point (1) with a 14 mm diam-eter drill bit.

File out the cut-out (1) on the drill hole (2) as per thedimensions on the steering column trim lower sec-tion (3).

Clip button G into the steering column trim lowersection (1).

Connect the cables of button G as follows to sockethousing H:– RT cable to PIN 1– BR cable to PIN 2– GN cable to PIN 3– BL cable to PIN 4

While installing the steering column trim lowersection, it must be ensured that the cables arenot damaged or squeezed.

Route cable of button G in steering column trim low-er section (1) as shown.

! It must be ensured that the cables are not nearmovable parts while being routed. Before connecting, it must be ensured that thesteering column is completely extended.

Route branch A9 to the steering column.Connect socket housing H of button G to branchA9.

7. Concluding work and function test

The retrofit system does not require programming/coding.– Connect the battery– Connect the battery charger to the car– Carry out a vehicle test using the ISTA system and note or work through any entered errors in the memory– Conduct a function test– If it is too bright outside, the illuminated front ornamental grilles remain non-functional. In order to test their

functionality, cover up the light sensor in the instrument cluster– Re-assemble the car– Give the customer the customer information

Operation

The front ornamental grille lighting is switched on automatically if one of the following conditionsapplies:– After the vehicle is unlocked (lit up for max. one minute)– After a door, the boot lid or the bonnet is opened (lit up for max. three minutes)– After the engine is switched off (lit up for max. three minutes)– After a door, the boot lid or the bonnet is closed (lit up for max. one minute)– After the vehicle is locked (lit up for max. nine seconds)The front ornamental grille lighting is switched off automatically / is not automatically switched onif one of the following conditions applies:– During very bright daylight– When starting to drive– At extremely high outside temperature

Manually switching on/off the illuminated front ornamental grille– When button (1) is pressed, the front ornamental grille lighting can also be switched on during driving– You can see that the front ornamental grille lighting is switched on when the control light (2) in the button (1) is

green– The front ornamental grilles remain lit up until they are switched off again using the button (1)– They must be manually switched on again after the engine has been restarted
