• First, create new folder and name it accordingly to your project

• My folder is labeled GEO400_15• Do this before you even attempt to download

any LANDSAT data from GLCF.

Create 2 new folders within your main folder

This will make your life much easier when working with the long file names from the Landsat data. When downloading each band individually it can make the first exercises confusing due to long file names. Send the correct years to the correct folders. When it comes time to extract the data and build your stacks it will be a breeze.

Everything you need to know about your image is in the file name. But it is still wise to write this all down and keeping a running record of what is being used for project. This information is important.

• Next you will want to make 2 more additional folders for each year you create a layer stack.

• This will be convenient in keeping your subset year composites organized.

Give each file a meaningful name, i.e. year and Path & Row identifier, and what kind of image it is, this screen capture shows it is a stack .IMG If it were one of your composites, then label accordingly , i.e. TrueColor, etc

• Continue to do this each step of the way.• Organize each exercise with new folders accordingly • Build your data correctly and with care, it will make the final paper come

together smoothly. Keep your subsets divided within each folder.

ERDAS Trash• Create a trash folder but keep it organized just like your regular project

folder• At some point you will become frustrated and delete something

important, or change you mind and start all over on some part. Just put the unwanted files in the trash folder you create.

• It sounds crazy, but at some point you will need to dig through it and use a file or resurrect a former classification for a map. Or, at least I did, and I was thankful I kept a trash folder.
