Course Information
To select the 2016 training orchestra of the EUBO Mobile Baroque Academy (EMBA) two identical four-day residential
courses under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen are organised at Trifolion Cultural Centre in Echternach, Luxembourg.
Any musician who would like to be a member of the 2016 European Union Baroque Orchestra must attend one of these
courses and take part in all the scheduled sessions.
Applications are accepted from Monday 18 January 2016 to Friday 18 March 2016.
Applications must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a music teacher/professor/colleague, CV/biography,
photo of yourself and copy of ID/passport. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.
As well as orchestral work, the courses feature ensemble work and individual coaching with the resident tutors. Each course
includes a concert given by the students and an informal concert by the tutors. Each applicant pays a non-returnable deposit
of €50 to cover the administrative costs and a course fee of €200 in addition to the travel to/from Echternach,
Luxembourg. EUBO provides accommodation in the Youth Hostel (3 nights) in Bollendorf, Germany and all meals for the
applicants. All applicants are required to bring their own baroque instrument tuned to A=415. EUBO will provide six
harpsichords and one small chamber organ. Financial assistance may be available for porterage of a cello or a double bass
(for further information contact Noora Heiskanen emailing [email protected]).
Following the two courses a final selection of players will be made. All applicants for EUBO will be notified of the selection
results as soon as possible after the courses. Certificates of attendance at the course will be given to all candidates. We regret
that due to the large number of participants at the Orchestral Courses, we will be unable to provide musical feedback after
the selection results are announced.
Successful candidates selected for EUBO 2016 will be refunded the course fee of €200 and travel expenses to/from the
course, upon completion of the planned tours. To reclaim the travel costs you will have to provide receipts or tickets for your
flights/trains/buses.
Orchestral Course Repertoire
Course Cost & Method of Payment
Orchestral Course Repertoire
Orchestral/sectional sessions: EUBO will bring all the music necessary for the full orchestral and sectional sessions during
the courses. A list of the orchestral repertoire will be sent to you shortly before the courses. Parts will not be sent and you
are not expected to have prepared this orchestral repertoire in advance.
Chamber sessions: EUBO has an extensive chamber music library, but you may bring some music for the Chamber Music
Tutor’s consideration to play with the other students at the chamber music sessions and end of course concert. Chamber
music groups should include at least four players but preferably more. It would be useful to have an additional score for the
tutor who will coach you.
Individual sessions:
String players should prepare two contrasting movements selected to show your ability and sound to the best advantage,
and two other movements to study during the course. Remember to bring the continuo part with you.
Wind players should be prepared to work on the most relevant orchestral repertoire, such as Bach overtures, Handel
concerti grossi etc. Bring at least one complete piece for your instrument and continuo to study during the course.
Harpsichordists are reminded that you will be principally judged on your ability as a continuo player, but for your
individual session you should bring solo music to demonstrate your technical skills, and a basso continuo piece on which you
would like to work to demonstrate your understanding of continuo playing.

EUBO Tours 2016-2017
About EUBO The European Union Baroque Orchestra enables emerging young EU musicians of outstanding ability to obtain the necessary
orchestral experience to follow a professional career as a baroque musician and to internationalise their careers. EUBO is an
Ambassador of the European Union and between 2015 and 2018 its activities are an integral part of a co-operation project
‘EUBO Mobile Baroque Academy‘ (EMBA) which is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
EUBO provides a bridge between conservatoire study and professional life, and an opportunity to study and perform under
the inspirational leadership of Music Director Lars Ulrik Mortensen and some of the world’s finest baroque musicians. The
orchestra re-forms each year with completely new personnel; musicians are selected by an international faculty at residential
orchestral audition courses. The courses are held annually in Echternach, Luxembourg, where EUBO is "Orchestra in
Residence". The successful musicians then undertake intensive periods of rehearsals in preparation for concert tours to music
festivals and concert halls across Europe.
