Dear Families and Friends of Orchard Park Recreation,
First and foremost, we hope you are all doing
well. February 1st was opening day for Summer Camp
Registration as it is each year. By March 1st most of
the variety of 18 camps were sold out. By March 1st
most of our 125 summer staff were hired. By March
1st OPREC was on pace for achieving its 17th
consecutive year of growth. By March 1st the
excitement within the OPREC operation was at an all
time high.
And then the world as we have known it
changed. Under the unwavering leadership of
Assistant Director, Kristin Santillo, and our caring,
compassionate part time staff, OPREC salvaged a
healthy and safe summer of programs. It was heart
breaking to only be able to service a fraction of our
normal participants and hire a third of our incredible
summer staff. We did prevail which bought joy to the
campers, parents and OPREC.
Now that we call our new home the Community
Activity Center on California Road a full slate of Fall
programs are in progress. Winter programs are being
planned and soon enough we will be planning for the
Summer of 2021. OPREC truly appreciates the
community’s support in everything we do. We
promise to continue to provide programming which
will always add to the quality of life in Orchard Park.
Please stay in touch with us by going to our
website at oprec.org. We look forward to the “new
normal” in which we are back to serving all our fami-
lies in Orchard Park.
Stay Safe!
