Nicholas Burko
Nicholas grew up in Manhattan, the world’s financial capital. Nicholas became intrigued in
business at an early age. Nicholas’ quest to learn about this lifeblood of the city and the nation led him to
enroll, in eleventh grade, in his first economics course. In that economics course, Nicholas’ love for finance
and business was fostered. At the end of the semester, the students were tasked with creating a stock
portfolio. Not long thereafter, he created a portfolio of 40 stocks to eliminate sector-specific and stock-
specific risk. Nicholas thought that it was the most influential project of his high school career. Nicholas
was hooked and knew that he wanted to pursue a career in finance, which led him to apply early decision to
Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
At Syracuse University, Nicholas is a Finance and Accounting double major with an Economics
minor. At Whitman, Nicholas is a dedicated student, who is on the Dean’s List each semester. He received
certifications in Bloomberg Market Concepts and Microsoft Excel from Certipoint. Nicholas is currently the
Assistant Treasurer of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity on campus where he implements cost saving measures
for the organization’s long-term financial health.
This past summer, Nicholas served as a Commercial Banking Summer Intern at Bank Leumi USA.
He worked for the International & Technology Banking Group and the Credit team and reported directly to
Leumi’s National Head of Credit. In that role, Nicholas analyzed the bank’s real estate, media &
entertainment, and healthcare deals and underwrote loans.
In the summer following his sophomore year, Nicholas interned at Protocol Capital Management a
bespoke merchant bank in New York with expertise in capital placement and consulting in the alternative
investment field. Nicholas applied what he learned in the classroom freshman and sophomore years on a
daily basis by compiling performance reports and conducting investment research.
As a Senior Analyst in the Orange Value Fund, Nicholas utilizes his extraordinary leadership
qualities, superb work ethic, dynamic organizational and interpersonal skills, superlative quantitative skills
in order to prepare himself for a successful business career upon graduation.

Timothy Cairns
Timothy’s first exposure to finance started at a young age with his mother and fathers careers in
consumer and investment banking fields, where through dinner table conversations and countless long car
rides to ice hockey tournaments, he would always hear about the financial markets and current events. These
casual conversations spurred Timothy’s passion for finance that led him to pursue a double major in finance
and economics at the Whitman School of Management and Maxwell School at Syracuse.
In high school, Timothy’s passion for business and finance was continued with the numerous
business and economics courses that he took to increase his knowledge of the business world. These classes
lead him to create an investment club that brought together students who had varying interests in finance and
business and helped teach them the importance of investing and practice trading using a virtual stock portfolio
game. Taking advantage of all the opportunities he had, Timothy attended Bentley University’s Wall Street
101 program where he furthered his knowledge of finance and created research reports for a buy and sell
recommendation on two companies. Timothy also, completed his senior high school capstone project on
Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS), learning the types of risk involved and how they are analyzed and then
culminating the experience with a comprehensive presentation on how MBS’ and the Great Recession where
related.
Now at Syracuse, Timothy has continued taking advantage of all that is offered to him and has
become an active member of the Syracuse University Investment Club to help manage the funds $130,000
portfolio. He has also excelled in the classroom as demonstrated by his consistent recognition on the Dean’s
list. In addition to his academic and extra- curricular activities, Timothy has also become certified in basic
excel and is working on achieving his Bloomberg terminal certification. Timothy is excited to be part of the
Orange Value Fund and believes his experiences and background will be a useful asset to the fund and will
continue to help him succeed.
He interned at Ernst & Young in their structured finance advisory services program during the
summer of 2017. During his time there he worked with the CDO and CLO Transaction team. Tim gained
technical skills recalculating certain information provided in note revaluation reports to ensure accuracy with
offering documents and creating models to recalculate the cash flow of existing deals to test accuracy with
priority of payments with offering documents.

Greg Fligor
Growing up spending Summers managing a boat cleaning business that he started on the
waters of Martha’s Vineyard, Greg learned that being successful requires a top-notch work ethic,
reliability and excellent communication skills with clients.
He identified that his competitors did not offer cleaning with scuba gear and therefore they were
limited to smaller boats, and could not offer the highest quality cleanings. After raising the necessary
funds in order to pursue his scuba certification and purchase proper scuba equipment, just a few weeks in
business he repaid all that he borrowed and within a few more weeks began to see profits. Greg developed
relationships with the island harbormasters, yacht club managers, and fleet captains and launched a
weekly marketing campaign targeted at boat owners to continue to grow the customer base which
ultimately led to the expansion of the operation and to hiring 3 new employees to keep up with the
demand for his services. The slogan that he reminded the team was, “We dive right in and go overboard
for our clients!” It was this mindset coupled with his competitiveness, and desire to be the best that has
stuck with him.
Greg works tirelessly to exemplify this hunger and drive to find success in whatever he does.
This is demonstrated by his accomplishments as a member of the US National Sailing Team representing
our country in Garda, Italy in 2011, and a two-time National Champion Snowboard Racer in 2012 and
2014. When facing a challenge or any adversity Greg does not shy away but rather he sees this as an
opportunity to step up and be a leader.
Greg’s interests for financial services can be traced back to the dinner table growing up listening
to his father discuss daily newsworthy events and how they would directly or indirectly affect what his
business. This past summer, Greg secured an internship at Credit Suisse as an Investment Banking
Summer Analyst in the New York City office. Greg plans to use all of the knowledge and experience that
he collects in order to launch a successful career in investment banking.

Refjola Malushi
Refjola was first intrigued by the world of business in middle school when she read her first 401K
statement. Growing up in an immigrant family with non-English speaking parents, she translated just about
everything to Albanian for her parents - from CNBC broadcasts and car leases to 401K statements.
Although these seemed like chores at the time, these experiences established the strong foundation of
Refjola’s knowledge and love for commerce.
Refjola capitalized her interests when she decided to major in Finance and Accounting at the Martin
J. Whitman School of Management and minor in Global Political Economy. Outside the classroom, she
utilizes her interest in Finance to create a greater good for the community by taking on the position of VP of
Fundraising for Habitat for Humanity. Refjola created detailed budgets for fundraisers by collecting invoices
as well as planned and executed community wide events to raise over $2,000.
After her sophomore year, Refjola interned with Natixis Global Asset Management (NGAM) as a
legal intern where she worked closely with lawyers and paralegals at a time when regulations on financial
companies were constantly changing. She gained exposure outside of legal such with NGAM launching
their first ETF and learning about portfolio construction.
During her junior year summer, Refjola interned at Antares Capital as a credit analyst in leveraged
finance. She put her financial modeling and leveraged finance skills to work at Antares while working on
numerous live deals that involved evaluating and structuring senior-secured and unitranche credit facilities
to support leverage buyouts, recapitalizations, and refinancings undertaken by private equity clients.
Refjola’s internships were an invaluable learning experience which excited her for the endless
learning she’ll gain at every stage of her career. Refjola looks forward to being a Senior Analyst for the
Orange Value Fund. She realizes that the best way to gain a financial education is through the real world
responsibility of managing money. All of Refjola’s experiences have allowed her passion for a career in
financial services to grow as she looks forward to further develop her skills.

Michael Slutsky
Originally from Israel, Michael came to America at the age of five. He spent the majority of his
childhood in St. Louis, Missouri, before moving to New York during his sophomore year of high school.
Michael first became interested in finance when he took a macroeconomics class as a junior in high
school. The curriculum included a stock market simulation game as well as a trip to the NYSE. Shortly
after the conclusion of the class, Michael opened a brokerage account with his personal savings. He
initially began as a technical trader, but has transitioned to a more fundamental approach.
Immediately after arriving to Syracuse University as a freshman, Michael knew he needed to
work hard and learn as much as possible about the financial services industry. He began to explore the
different opportunities offered to students with a passion for finance. He joined the Syracuse University
Investment Club as a research analyst his freshman year. Shortly after, Michael successfully pitched Tesla
Motors, a trade that yielded a realized gain of 23%. Now, Michael is the Head Portfolio Manager of the
club, responsible for managing the $140,000+ portfolio.
After his freshman year, Michael interned at Ipreo, a market intelligence and analytics firm. The
following summer, Michael landed an internship at Bay Crest Partners, an institutional broker dealer. His
internship at Bay Crest gave him the knowledge to begin trading options in his personal portfolio.
This past summer, Michael interned at Tenaron Capital Management, a fixed-income relative-
value (FI-RV) boutique hedge fund. At Tenaron, Michael was a trading & treasury summer analyst.
Michael believes that the experience and knowledge he has gained thus far as an Orange Value Fund
Analyst will help him stand out among his peers. He hopes that his work ethic and passion for finance
will continue to benefit the Orange Value Fund Program.

Troy Gates
Growing up in Northern New York, Troy’s interest in business and finance started at an early age
when he began a small enterprise purchasing and selling consumer electronics. The idea of capturing
value in the market immediately appealed to him. Later in high school, he further developed his passion
for finance while discovering securities markets and competing in investment competitions.
As a finance major within Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, Troy has
exceled in both academic and professional environments. During the summer of 2016, after his first year
at Syracuse, he interned for Verizon’s Financial Planning and Analysis Group. There, he was responsible
for modeling the financial impact of new Fios packages and sales practices. This experience taught him to
analyze strategic initiatives from a quantitative standpoint.
Last summer, Troy worked with KeyBank’s Corporate Development and Strategy Group where
he was able to capitalize on his interest in strategic transactions. He gained his first experience in control
investing while completing due diligence on the acquisition of Cain Brothers, a healthcare focus
investment banking and public finance firm. With increased responsibility, he took a lead role in the
valuation, due diligence, and investment committee presentation for equity investments in Billtrust and
Snapsheet, payment cycle management and self-service insurance claims companies, respectively.
As a Senior Analyst in the Orange Value Fund, Troy uses his unique control investing and

Yuelin Xie “Lin”
Yuelin spent his first eight years in Shanghai, the major financial city of mainland China, where
his father has established an investment career. It was soon when the first-grader was given his own
brokerage account in hope for him to understand the mechanics of the financial world at a young age.
Consistently proven to be right, Yuelin’s divergent thinking has made him conspicuous among his
father’s colleagues with memorable assertions such as “the decline of Chinese economy would lead to an
increase in alcohol consumptions” or “the impact of McDonald’s coming to China would boost
smartphone-buyers to compensate the longer duration spent outside their homes”. After completing his
first semester of third grade, Yuelin decided to continue his academics abroad in New Zealand, and he
pursued to construct a more diversified investment portfolio for his father’s hedge fund. Five years later,
Yuelin immigrated to New Zealand due to better taxation and traveling power for the future.
Fully immersed into a new environment, the importance of English proficiency became clear. On
the other hand, his competent quantitative-expertise from stringent courses and extra tutoring was quickly
recognized by his counselors, who approved his petition that grants him advanced quantitative-education
that is two years ahead of his current grade. When Yuelin is not studying mathematics, he was reading
and writing English so that one day he could read financial statements in both languages.
After being accepted into the reputable Whitman School of Management, he helped with
translating Chinese financial reports and news for the Orange Value Fund. The Director of which later
invited him to be a senior analyst for the fund due to Yuelin’s excellent academic performances in
fiannce. In his spare time, Yuelin likes to be on the Bloomberg Terminals preparing himself to use it daily
in the future.
Over the summer of 2017, Yuelin has an internship opportunity at EJF Capital LLC, which is a
well-known hedge fund in the banking industry. He hopes to use what he will learn through this
internship into helping the OVF when school starts. Upon graduation, Yuelin wishes to work in the
financial industry and tests his rich financial knowledge.
