Scottish Rite News Newsletter Date September 2017
9-11, A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Brethren,
On the morning of September 11, 2001, a US Airways Boeing
757 takes off from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and heads to San Fran-
cisco, California, climbing to a cruising altitude of 23,000 feet. As
the flight passed through 20,000 feet, air traffic control suddenly in-
structs the pilot to level off and hold at 20,000 feet. The Captain is concerned
by this request and becomes even more concerned when he is directed to land
immediately.
We now know that the events which occurred on September 11, 2001 were
a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-
Qaeda on the United States. Four passenger airliners operated by two major
U.S. passenger air carriers—all of which departed from airports in the north-
eastern United States bound for California—were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda ter-
rorists. Two were flown into the World Trade Center in New York, one into the
Pentagon in Washington and the last into a farm field in Pennsylvania.
The Captain of the above mentioned US Airways Boeing 757 will speak to
us on his experiences that day and the three days following at our September
11th Stated Meeting. This is one program you don’t want to miss!

SECRETARY SEZ—
Dues notices that were sent by the Supreme Council should be received
shortly. You will notice that our dues were raised by $10 to $105 per member.
This will allow Orange County Valley to donate the increase to the Orange
County Childhood Language Center. If all members pay their dues, we will be the first
Valley to have 100% participation in supporting this important charity. More importantly
this $10 donation is a tax-deductible Item.
It is not too late to get your Blue Lodge Brothers to petition for our Reunion to be
held on September 9th and 30th. Get those to me ASAP so the necessary preparations can
be made.
Ill. Bob McNamara, 33° General Secretary

Venerable Master
Dear Brothers,
As we head into the end of summer, I want to express my thanks to
many for their time, effort and dedication to our Valley. I’ve been privileged
to sit as your Venerable Master for the past few months and I can say with
certainty, how honored I am to see firsthand, the dedication we all have to
keep this Valley in working order.
Many good things have been happening in the Valley, including a focused effort to
create the “Orange County Scottish Rite Arts & Crafts Ladies’ Program” and the labors to
provide meaningful degree work for the benefit of our incoming brothers and current
members. We also had a very successful fund-raising event for our charity, the Orange
County Childhood Language Center on July 31st, where many attended the 2017 RiteCare
Golf Classic and the Gift of Voice Gala Dinner at the Yorba Linda Country Club. Please
read more about these two very successful events in the Childhood Language Center arti-
cle section of our newsletter, written by the Vice President of the OC CLC, brother David
Frias, 32°.
Dear brother, please take the time to encourage your lady to complete the Arts &
Crafts form included in this newsletter with her selection of activities right away. She can
either send the form to our Scottish Rite office or give me a call. We want to make sure our
Valley puts together fun workshop days for our ladies to enjoy in the Fall. I look forward
to receiving many responses soon.
As we know, our next Fall Class is fast approaching, currently scheduled for Septem-
ber 30th. This class creates an opportunity for those to experience Scottish Rite and to be
raised to a Master of the Royal Secret over a period of two days. I hope we all make a big
effort in recruiting new members quickly, so we can have a very successful class. It is ex-
tremely important that you provide a petition form to a brother as soon as possible, so our
Valley has the time to process the application.
As I continue to work on my own ashlar’s rough spots, I invite you along for the
walk my brother. Remember, if there is anything I can do for the benefit of our Valley,
please don’t hesitate to email or call.
Fraternally yours,
Hon. Frankie Rosario, 32° KCCH

Greetings Brethren,
Welcome to the month of September and the beginning of the 4th quarter of the year. Sep-
tember (Roman month) (from Latin septem, "seven") was originally the seventh of ten months on the
oldest known Roman calendar, with March (Latin Martius) the first month of the year until perhaps
as late as 153 BC. After the calendar reform that added January and February to the beginning of
the year, September became the ninth month, but retained its name. It had 29 days until the Julian
reform, in the 1st century BC, an extra day was added in honor of the deified Julius Caesar on 4 Sep-
tember.
As I’ve stated in my last SEVERAL articles I’m still looking for Brothers to volunteer for the Lodge Am-
bassador program. Please send me an e-mail to [email protected] if you’re interested or have any ques-
tions. Lodge ambassadors play a very important role in our valley as they are often new member’s first contact
with and introduction to the Scottish Rite.
Here are your Masonic tidbits for the month of September. If you remember in last month’s article I talked
about William Morgan obtaining a copyright, well the saga continued in September, on September 12th 1826 Wil-
liam Morgan was taken to jail in Canandaigua New York where he was allegedly kidnapped from. On September
18th 1793 the cornerstone of the United States Capital building, in Washington D.C. was laid in a formal Masonic
ceremony, with George Washington personally playing a key role and wearing Masonic regalia.

Brothers of the Rose Croix
In the words of Paul, "Know ye, that ye are a temple yourselves," and "offer up
yourselves as a living sacrifice." The temple is you and in this vain, we study the "camp" of
Scottish Rite Masonry. Since time immemorial, the circle has been an emblem of perfection,
and to that end, we should strive. In the first five emanations of GOD, the heavens and all
its inhabitants were created to give the glory of the LORD of LORDS. We read of them as
"angels," seraphims, cherubims, beasts (heavenly), and the heavenly hosts. With two natures created He
them. Before the second five emanations were spoken, dissentions had set in this heavenly creation. In the
words of our Elder Brother: "Learn of me, for I am a gentle soul." We also find: "If you know my father,
then you should know me." I am the Creator, the Preserver, the Destroyer, "I will set my bow in the heav-
ens as a covenant unto you."
The delta is Omnificence, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence. We have come through Wisdom,
Strength, and Beauty. We have traveled with Faith, Hope and Charity. Then it is time for Thought, Mat-
ter, and Product, to see man's place in the order of things. The symbols of perfection now give way to sym-
bols of imperfections.
The second five emanations of GOD gave to us earthly things, those that are measured "by the

Brethren,
The 22° of the A.A.S.R. is the Knight Royal Axe. The jewel of the degree is a golden
ax which is most appropriate. This degree illustrates the overriding importance of having re-
spect for labor. Work is man's great duty. The value and honor is found in the effort and en-
thusiasm with which man performs his tasks. The relative value that a society may assign to
an individual job means nothing. The 22° teaches that work is a privilege and a blessing
which helps each of us to improve our character. Beyond just our regular work, the degree emphasizes the
important work of further developing our souls and our minds.
The long-awaited and much-anticipated Fall Super Breakfast is finally upon us on Sunday Sep-
tember 17th from 9 am to noon at the DeMolay Center. Our morning feast will consist of custom omelets,
sausages, hash browns, hot waffles made-to-order, copious amounts of hot bacon, the exotic chocolate
fountain and much, much more. The Super Breakfasts are the only fundraising events where the 100% of
the proceeds after our costs go directly towards our valley's operating expenses. Most importantly, the Su-
per Breakfast is a relaxed atmosphere with great food and superb fellowship. Many thanks to the brothers
who have already purchased their tickets. And, please call the OCSR office if you want to buy additional
tickets. This buffet style meal is a great opportunity to invite family, friends and neighbors to a hearty,
American breakfast.

Master of Kadosh
Brethren,
As Master of Kadosh, I am using my Scottish Rite Newsletter space to remember, and high-
light the accomplishments of Frank S. Land, 33°, Grand Cross. A Great Scottish Rite Mason, known
to DeMolay members, Sr. DeMolays and DeMolay Advisors throughout the world as “Dad” Land, the
Founder of DeMolay International.
We all remember that special person who had a significant impact in our lives at a crucial time. It
may have been a relative, perhaps a minister or teacher. For many young men, that individual was Frank S. Land,
whether through personal contact while he was alive or by the benefit of belonging to the world’s largest fraternal
organization for young men, DeMolay International, started by him.
In March 1919, following the end of World War I, 28-year-old Frank S. Land met with 17 year old Louis
Lower, whose father had passed away leaving him without a father figure in his life. After much discussion, they
formed a club with friends of Lower that had similar interests and needs. The club became DeMolay International.
This small group of nine young men would evolve into an organization that would initiate more than
1,000,000 other young men and teach them the lessons of filial love, reverence for sacred things, courtesy, comrade-
ship, fidelity, cleanliness, and patriotism. These seven cardinal precepts of DeMolay have stood the test of time in
teaching good moral character to young men. The boys called Bro. Land “Dad,” and this title stuck. Today, all
male DeMolay advisors are referred to by this term of endearment.
Many of our brethren in the Scottish Rite were DeMolays in their youth. The friendships, the advice from
our “Dad” advisors, the opportunities to learn about leadership, public speaking, ethics, and much more greatly in-
fluenced many young men who went on to play many important roles in our nation.

Language Center News
Welcome from the Orange County Childhood
Language Center.
On Monday, July 31st, the Orange County Childhood
Language Center hosted the annual RiteCare Golf Tourna-
ment and RiteCare Gift of Voice Gala dinner at the Yorba
Linda Country Club. This was a full day of fun activities
where people gen-
erously provide
the financial sup-
port needed to
allow our Lan-
guage Center to
operate for an-
other year.
The Golf
Tournament
kicked off at 11:00am with a full contingent of golfers. At
the end of the day the winning golf team was announced.
The First Place trophy went to our own Nick Villaseñor
32° and his team of Randy, Luke & Mike.
In the
evening the
crowd moved
into the dining
room which
was beautiful-
ly decorated.
The room was
lined with fan-
tastic auction
items and eve-
ryone was busy bidding on their favorite ones and hoping
they would be the last bidder. One great Live auction item
was a trip to Phoenix to attend an Arizona Diamondbacks
baseball game. The trip included Airfare, accommodations
at a 5 Star Resort and excellent tickets to the game. This
package was generously donated by Illustrious Donald
Tapia 33°. The winners are going to have a fantastic trip!
Highlights!
Honorable Ralph Shelton,
32° KCCH and past President
took the stage to present a
check from Brother Ted Seger-
strom, 32°. We are very grate-
ful to Ted for believing in the
Language Center and wanting
to help children overcome their
communication challenges. We
appreciate Ralph for continuing
to spread the good word about
our accomplishments.
After enjoying a fun day of golf Honorable David
Price 32° KCCH also
attended the Gala din-
ner. Besides working
tirelessly for our Val-
ley, David has also con-
sistently helped to sup-
port our Language Cen-
ter. This night he pre-
sented a generous check
on behalf of the the
Orange County Mason-
ic Memorial Founda-
tion which he leads as
President.
This event succeeds with the strong support of our
volunteers
who work
very hard
each year
to make it
happen.
Our volun-
teers put in
so many
hours plan-
ning, wrapping & organizing because they believe in help-
ing children achieve the Gift of Voice. We can’t Thank
You enough for all your contributions.
The Scottish Rite Valley of Orange County should
be very proud of our Language Center and all the great
work we have accomplished together.
Sincerely yours,

square" and tempered in mercy. As man begins to grow in stature, his mind seeks to dwell on things other than
heavenly things, and he becomes what he thinks, an "isosceles triangle," able to stand on his own. Time, that great
equalizer of all things, caused man to "turn aside from God, becoming an "acute triangle," extremely severe but with
great importance.
Man's eyes are heavenward sometimes. Man is thankful, sometimes. How swiftly time moves and causes for-
getfulness. How swiftly time causes us to see more in ourselves than ourselves. As the eagle watches the aft, likewise
does it watch the fore. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure. But have compassion on thy people, the chil-
dren of thy creation, O LORD.
From perfection by way of the circle and the delta, we have arrived to near perfection in the nonagon. It is
the square of perfection, yet it is not perfect. Man is not perfect, but he should strive to be so. The age is upon you,
Scottish Rite Masons. Forge wise laws and be an upright judge. Teach of the most High God, and die before you
give up your ideals. Teach those in your charge that "Justice is Equity." Teach the laws of God, no matter what
name is used. Teach and know that the heart is what makes a man upright, not stature. Separate that which is di-
vine from that which is not, teach of love - your God, your neighbor, and yourself. From perfection by way of the
point within the circle.
