    ORAL FINAL SUMMATIVE NOTES-REFERENCE

    I. a) Name of work and Author:Kite Runner by Khaled Hoiseinni

    b) Brief Summary and Key points:

Amir has a very close relationship with Hassan and ends up betraying him whenhe gets rapped. The whole story revolves around how Amir tries to get back for his faults

    to atone for his sins.

    c) Interesting/ useful Quotations:

    1) There is a way to be good again- Rahim Khan

    2) I will let you keep the kite to let you remember what I am about to do- Assef

    d) My opinion on the text:

These two quotes shows me how people make up for their sins by actually trying

to become good and changing their perceptions on life. The second quote show me how

Assef actually wanted Hassan to remember all the violence he went through when he was

getting rapped so that the torture continues even after the rape was done. This is a very

cruel thing to do and it shows us that Assef cares a lot for the unhappiness of others. We

can very assume that he cares more for the unhappiness of others than the happiness of

    himself.

    e) How the text relates to the quote we have chosen:

In the first quote we can see how if one tries to care about the happiness of others

with the happiness of oneself, we can make a perfect society by trying to be good. The

second quote relates very well because it shows us how assef can relate to the kind of

people who care more about the unhappiness of others over the happiness for himself.

    II.

    a) Name of work and Author:

    Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle

    b) Brief Summary and Key points:

A Mumbai teenager is arrested under the suspicion of cheating during the show

Who wants to be a millionaire. He is arbitrarily presumed guilty at first and undergoes

a lot of domestic violence by the police to find the truth. There are various instances

when children are forced to become handicapped in order to beg for money.

    c) Interesting/ useful Quotations:

    d) My opinion on the text: Slumdog millionaire shows us how people desire

unhappiness of the children more than their own happiness. The movie countains a lot ofsocial justice issues and it is all due to the selfish mentalities of the people who run those

corrupt organizations. It is very unfair for us an humans to actually allow such a practice

to occur in society because children is the future of the world and they deserve rights. It is

simply not acceptable for one to cut of a Childs hand for begging purposes. It is just not

    humane.

    e) How the text relates to the quote we have chosen: Such practices are very

    - This is just one facet of a custom that has been etched into society for hundreds ofyears, a custom that most women despise and fight to overcome: the subservience of

the female gender and intellectual dominance of males.

    3) Kite runner- There is a way to be good again- I will let you keep the kite to let you remember what I am about to do to you- My hands are stained with Hassans Blodd; I pray God doesnt let them get stained
