Oracle 10g SQL Faculty Tips Tips for Delivering the Oracle 10g SQL Course at its Best! Oracle 10g SQL is an instructor-led course. As a result, the success of this course depends on how it is delivered. This document provides you tips that will help you deliver this course with maximum impact. The tips are meant to set up a framework within which you can improvise. So leverage the tips below and connect with your participants to create an engaging learning environment! Stick to the Detailed Agenda: The agenda is your roadmap towards accomplishing the defined objectives. Follow it. Look out for discussions taking longer time than planned or digressive in nature. However, if the group would like to continue discussing the subject, clarify that this would mean adjusting the timetable as needed (which could mean extending the day!). Maintain the Competitive Spirit: This course deploys a “Competitive Strategy”, which means that we separate the participants in teams, which would be their identities for the course duration. On every possible occasion (including a knowledge check, activity, or a good discussion point contribution!), award points to the teams. Total up the team points from time-to-time, probably after each knowledge check or activity. Encourage the lagging teams to compete harder Note: The “Competitive Strategy” is explained in detail in the course material. Reward Punctuality: Before a break/activity, announce that additional points will be awarded to groups that adhere to the timelines. This will motivate participants to be punctual! Observe Participants: Besides listening to participants, observe their behavior. Watch for signs of boredom, frustration, and other engagement damper. # Z86789 Page 1 of 3 Oracle10gSQL_FacultyTips.doc © 2009 Accenture Technology Solutions. All Rights Reserved.

Tips for Delivering the Oracle 10g SQL Course at its Best!

Maintain the Competitive Spirit:

This course deploys a Competitive Strategy, which means that we separate the participants in teams, which would be their identities for the course duration. On every possible occasion (including a knowledge check, activity, or a good discussion point contribution!), award points to the teams.

Total up the team points from time-to-time, probably after each knowledge check or activity. Encourage the lagging teams to compete harderNote: The Competitive Strategy is explained in detail in the course material. Reward Punctuality:

Before a break/activity, announce that additional points will be awarded to groups that adhere to the timelines. This will motivate participants to be punctual! Observe Participants: Besides listening to participants, observe their behavior. Watch for signs of boredom, frustration, and other engagement damper. Energize the group with the scheduled discussions, activities and knowledge checks. Dont hesitate to initiate impromptu discussions, at the first sign of restlessness! Maintain a Productive Climate: Model the behavior that you expect participants to follow. Listen closely. Speak frankly. Encourage feedback and accept criticism professionally. Keep an open mind. Evaluate ideas, not people. Positively reinforce creative thinking. There could be situations where queries asked by some participants would not be easily understood by the rest. Before addressing these queries, explain/summarize them and get everybody on the same page!

Intervene if any participants get off the subject for more than a few seconds. Encourage and Structure Participation: Invite group members for input and ensure that only one person speaks (and is heard!) at a time. Ask Good Questions Use a variety of questioning techniques, including open-ended questions, to encourage participation and discussion. Avoid leading, personal, tricky, or unanswerable questions.

Employ the Inbuilt Slide Animations:

Some slides in the presentation decks are animated to build up. While preparing for this course, go through the presentation decks in Slideshow mode to know where the animations are. Utilize the build-up to allow discussions and questions. It will help you focus on the content being discussed. Provide Scheduled/Unscheduled Breaks Use the scheduled breaks. However, don't wait for signs of restlessness by participants. Initiate impromptu/non-scheduled discussions to shake up the participants! Put it in a Parking Lot Discussions can raise a lot of questions and ideas that may digress from the course agenda, but are nonetheless valuable. To record such questions and ideas, use a parking lot, which can take the form of a flipchart. Follow up the items in the parking lot, by discussing them at a later time, after achieving the milestones in the course agenda. Review Periodically Leverage the Objectives, Agenda, Summary, Questions and Comments, and End of Day Review slides to summarize and review what has been accomplished so far and clarify what remains to be done. Maintain Control of the Course Delivery All these guidelines point to the major task of the Instructor maintaining control of the session. It is your responsibility to ensure order and productivity so as to guide the group to achieve the stated outcomes. Leverage YOUR Experiences Apply your project or other experiences to drive home points as you lecture. We prefer you to hired trainers because of your rich Accenture experiences that you can share with the class to help them see how the content will apply to their every day life at Accenture.Happy Training!
