Oracle Java Technology Workshop – November, Sydney

Intergy’s Senior Java Consultant, Adnan Nasrullah, has recently attended a full day Oracle Java technology workshop which was held here in the Sydney CBD on November 16. The workshop was organised by Oracle to highlight the new features of the latest Java Development Kit (Java 7) and the upcoming features which are planned in future Java Development Kits. We are excited to share some of the many highlights with you.

Project Lambda – a new language

The new parallel data libraries will offer Java developers efficient and powerful tools for building highly scalable concurrent applications that fully utilise modern multi-core systems, by adding closures and related features to the Java language. Lambdas will be in a supported release of Java in 2013.

Project EASEL: developing and managing HTML5

NetBeans Project EASEL: Project EASEL enables developers to create and manage client-side HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript applications and create responsive CSS layouts for multi-format displays from one application.

Details covered include working with the JavaScript library manager; code completion for HTML5, JavaScript, and jQuery; CSS styling of dynamically generated content; browser integration for fine-tuning CSS; and JavaScript debugging. All of this from the same IDE in which developers are also creating Java-based RESTful Web services.

Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle ADF

Oracle JDeveloper is a free IDE that offers an integrated environment for building Java, SOA, database, and portal applications. Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) is a Java EE–based (enterprise) development framework that extends the functionality provided by Java EE and focuses on a visual and declarative development approach.

Developing Applications with MySQL and Java

The database is the core part of any application (web, desktop, even the embedded apps). Low cost application development in Java requires a true open source, reliable, robust, and fast & full featured database which can be paired with Java applications and give the desired high performance. Oracle has taken the initiative to add MySQL into its product line. MySQL has already become popular for web based applications especially for searching based web applications. MySQL Clustering is a great new feature. Also discussed was the MySQL Cloud features, which enable cloud based applications development using open source technologies, like Java & MySQL.

Conclusion:

The event was very informative and positive. By witnessing practical demonstrations of Java Code & Java IDE’s in action, Adnan identified many opportunities to use the new features to the advantage of our valued clients.
