Tra-di-tion! Tradition! Fiddler on the Roof just might be the quintessential Broadway standard upon which all others should be judged. The music, the story, the choreography – it just doesn’t get much better than this. Whether old or young, rich or poor, Jewish or Christian, black or white, Tevye’s story, set more than 100 years ago, still speaks to all of us as we navigate the rapidly-changing world around us.

I hope you are making plans now to join us next month, right here at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater, for Disney’s Newsies! This show is one fun dance number after another as the little guy takes on big business during the turn of the century in New York. Grab the family for an amazing night of theatre! You won’t regret it!

Speaking of regret, you’ll want to avoid it next season by purchasing your season tickets NOW! We’ve got another incredible season lined up for you, and the best seats at the best prices go to season ticket holders. So, become one today!

Birth ofAL auto

Celebrating 20 years of building vehicles in Alabama

More than two decades ago, Daimler AG surprised the world when it chose to

put down roots in Tuscaloosa County. That decision has paid off—for all of us.

Today Mercedes-Benz is responsible for more than 24,500 jobs at our plant in

Vance and through our suppliers across the region. With an annual economic

impact of more than $1.5 billion, our success in Alabama has paved the way

for many other foreign automakers to call the South their home, too. As we

break ground on a $1.3 billion plant expansion, we look back with pride at

what we’ve accomplished, and look forward to all the possibilities yet to come.

Jane Kirk), The Little Mermaid (Ensemble), Les Miserables (Ensemble), 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey (Amy) and The Sound of Music (Marta Von Trapp). She will be attending Rider University this fall as a Music Theatre major. She would like to thank her loving parents for their support and, of course, her big sister.

Mea Allen (Shprintze) is an 8th grade student at Oak Mountain Middle School. Her credits include: RMTC’s School of Rock (Katie), Mary Poppins (Jane Banks), Into the Woods (the Narrator), Once Upon a Mattress

(Princess Winnifred) and as a member of the Conservatory (6 years). Mea will make her film debut this summer in the Miramax feature film - I, Tonya (scheduled release Spring 2018), and as Wendy, in EWTN’s global television series - The Donut Man. Mea would like to thank Mr. Keith, RMTC Conservatory, and her parents for her deep-seeded passion for the dramatic arts and allowing her to grow and find her own path.

Michelle Ashman (Golde) is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and was part of the AADA Performing Company. Her musical theatre experience includes numerous plays with

Town & Gown Theatre, Summerfest (now RMTC), UAB, CCRI Players (Rhode Island), and RMTC productions of The Wizard of Oz, The Full Monty, and Sister Act. She has 15 years of formal dance training and performed in two local bands, has a BA in Mass Communications/Broadcasting from UAB and works in communications/public Relations for a local non-profit. Her two greatest accomplishments are a 22-year (and counting) marriage to an incredibly supportive, patient, and kind man (David), and the parenting of a really cool 21-year-old (Danielle).

Bonny Baker (Hodel) is from Nashville, TN and is a Musical Theatre graduate of Samford University. Some of her favorite roles include: Wind In The Willows (Ratty), On The Town (Hildy), and Nice Work If You Can Get It (Billie).

She has also been a part of The Birmingham Music Club’s productions of The Desert Song (Susan) and Die Fledermaus (Sally). Her next role will be Ariel in The Little Mermaid with Charleston Stage Company. She would like to thank her family for their continuous love and support!

Jesse Bates (Rabbi) began his professional career as a designer at Town & Gown while he was on the staff that created Summerfest. He has worked as a designer, actor, director, teacher, and past Chair of Theatre Arts at ASFA. He

was on the design team for the Jemision Theater. He has performed with RMTC, City Equity, local community and college theaters, and recently spent three summers at The Lost Colony in Manteo, NC. He received lifetime achievement and teaching awards from ASFA, Birmingham Area Theatre Alliance, and Alabama Conference of Theatre. He has also worked for years with the Southeastern Theatre Conference, serving various board and chair positions. He’s an Army vet, jazz lover, and a devotee of old radio shows. More importantly, he is a happy husband and even happier granddad to Sofia, Alex, and Nora. “Theatre is a cooperative of creative people. You may not like ‘em. but you better love ‘em.”

ALABAMA SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS

We’re celebrating 50 years.

Yesterday, Today & TomorrowLike a high contrast photograph, 1967 represented mankind at its worst,

full of wrath and rage, anguish and agony, as well as mankind at its best, brimming with ingenuity, imagination, innovation and inspiration.

Dr. King inspired us, The Beatles turned us on, Elvis broke our hearts, and Dr. Barnard gave us another. But it was Governor Lurleen Wallace that

gave us hope. By funding an after school arts program destined to become the nationally acclaimed Alabama School of Fine Arts, Governor Wallace ensured our children a remarkable, tuition-free education with

professional arts training. Join us in celebrating our beginnings yesterday, our successes today, and our future stars of tomorrow.

RMTC is continually expanding our reach and impact in the Birmingham community – and even the state of Alabama. But, this growth must be fueled with fiscal stability and long-term sustainability. To that end, RMTC has established a planned giving initiative named for an incredible woman, Carolyn King, who gave generously to RMTC during her lifetime and also planned for those gifts to continue past her time on earth. She was a blessing to so many and now serves as a shining example of dedication to the generations to come. The Society that bears her name is comprised of those who have included RMTC in a will retirement plan, charitable lead trust, charitable remainder trust, or life insurance policy that contributes to RMTC upon their passing. Won’t you join these donors in planning now for RMTC’s vital work into the future? Contact RMTC’s development office for more information. If you have made those plans, please let us know. We’d be grateful to include you in the Society!
