But who is more likely to look at these holidays? They cater for all different kinds of tastes, so arguably everyone could look at these holidays Why are there more tourists in some places than others? Which holiday here do you think is the most popular and why? Global internet connectivity What caused this rapid growth and what will continue to cause rapid growth in the amount of tourism globally? 1.Accessibility has improved because of changes in technology and also because people are now more aware of the world around them (global citizens) 2.Changes in technology: Transport vast improvements have been made allowing people to travel more easily/readily e.g. Jet planes, high speed trains and large cruise ships have allowed economies of scale and compressed space and time. The global transport networks have also expanded so that more destinations can be reached. Internet has facilitated research and booking operations and credit cards have made advance payments much easier for the customer and the tour operator. Media increases in different forms of media has allowed people to become aware of different locations through advertising (TV, radio, internet etc) and through reports/documentaries (e.g. Travel channels) 3.Affluence: Dual incomes + paid holidays = more disposable incomes (especially in MEDCs but also middle income countries such as Brazil and China) More money better education people acquire languages and knowledge of other cultures reduces apprehension of visiting Many high paid jobs in cities 50% of the worlds population live in urban areas growing desire by wealthier and more educated population to escape the pressures of urban living.
