The Trade Development Bank and French Development Agency, both IDFC members, are inviting leaders of the financial community to discuss the implications of this alignment with the financial community in Africa. The event will explore what the implementation of ‘alignment’ means in African development banks by investigating emerging processes, tools, approaches, methodologies, and institutional set-ups. Each representative will have a 3-5 min lighting talk presentation. The first part will include country representatives sharing their experiences and needs for the implementation of their NDCs and opportunities. The second part will include development institutions and UN representatives responding to opportunities for accelerating NDC implementation.

CLIMATE INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN CITIESKIFARU

Sub-Saharan Africa’s cities are home to more than 470 million people that are expected to double over the next

25 years. Climate impacts on agricultural yield are likely to exacerbate rural-to-urban migration and put pressure

on urban infrastructure and services in the coming decades. This session aims to bring together speakers to

discuss how cities in Africa and in emerging markets around the world can leapfrog historical approaches to

urban development and invest in low-carbon, resilient infrastructure. Panelists will discuss how to connect cities

with financing to implement resilient and green urban development strategies and mobilize private sector finance

that is crucial to climate action.

INTEGRATED LANDSCAPES MANAGEMENTKIFARU

Over 25 years after Rio, there is more recognition of the importance of Africa’s terrestrial and coastal landscapes

in delivering multiple production and ecosystem service benefits to support the continent’s transformation. This

event will provide different countries and champions of Africa’s landscape restoration and integrated

management an opportunity to show case actions in a variety of different critical landscapes (from coastal to

drylands and highlands). The panelists will also identify key ingredients of effective participatory implementation,

specify further needs, and share selected opportunities for leveraging support.

SECTORAL PANELCONSERVATION AND PRESERVATION OF FORESTS

Following President Kenyatta’s presentation at the high-level segment at One Planet Summit, which calls foraction on the conservation and preservation of forests in Africa, this session will focus on two main topics. Thefirst is on opportunities and barriers to successful forest restoration and sustainable forest management in Africa,which will identify key and cross-cutting barriers to implementation of the existing initiatives and agree onadequate response measures to address them. The second topic is on new and innovative ways of financingforestry in Africa, which will discuss ways to combine new sources of investments and national policy frameworkwhile insuring better income revenue for local communities.
