ABOUT NIACET

In 1924, the first semi-commercial chemical plant was put into operation in Niagara Falls, NY, by Carbide and

Carbon Chemicals Company. Within a year, the plant was expanded to full-scale production, and Niacet Chemical Corporation was formed under the joint ownership of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals, E.I. Dupont, and Shawinigan Power Company. The company name, Niacet, was derived from Niagara acetylene.

In 1928, Niacet built the first plant to produce synthetic glacial acetic acid by air oxidation of acetaldehyde. Sodium acetate and other derivatives soon followed.

Also introduced here in 1937 was one of the earliest productions of vinyl acetate by the treatment of acetic acid with acetylene. From 1946 to 2004, the company continued to expand and evolve, introducing new product units and technologies.

In 2009, Niacet completed design and installation of its newest production facilities for Sodium and Calcium Stearoyl Lactylates. These lactylate salts are commonly used in the bakery industry as dough strengtheners and crumb softeners. They also have wide applications in cosmetics and personal care products.

Niacet is a leading producer of organic salts, including propionates and acetates, serving

the Pharmaceutical, Food, Feed and Technical industries. With two long-standing and fully automated manufacturing sites, located in Niagara Falls, NY, USA, and Tiel, Netherlands, Niacet offers world-class quality products to a global market.

Their products fill vital needs in a broad range of applications that are essential to everyday life including food preservation, antibiotic formulation, dialysis treatment, energy production and more.

Niacet seeks to create sustainable growth and value through their commitment to the well-being of their employees, their communities and the environment. They are proud to promote their compliance to the highest standards of conduct in the industry, including the American Chemistry Council's Code of Responsible Care®.

With over 85 years of chemical manufacturing experience at each of their production facilities, Niacet continues to build on the diverse skills and knowledge of their employees to better serve customers.

Located just 20 miles south of Niagara Falls is the cultural hub of Buffalo, NY. Buffalo is the second most

populous city in all of New York, right behind the Big Apple itself. While its reputation as a sports-centric town is legendary, Buffalo is much more than chicken wings and football. Its robust craft beer scene and neoclassical, beaux arts and deco architecture enthrall visitors and long-time residents alike.

In 1876, Frederik Olmstead (the architect of Central Park) commented that Buffalo is "the best planned city, as to its streets, public places and grounds in the United States, if not in the world." Even today, Buffalo's architectural legacy is strong with a diverse portfolio of architectural styles and innovative parks, many of which were designed by Olmstead himself. One of these gems, known as Delaware Park, offers a

stunning venue with scenic views. With over 350 acres of open space, it is the perfect meeting place for Buffalonians to gather and revel in the leisurely atmosphere.

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens located in South Park provides a place for the public to enjoy and appreciate an impressive living plant collection. Home to a beautiful tri-domed glass, wood and steel conservatory, the gardens serve as an ideal romantic getaway. They also host a variety of exhibitions, educational programs and events throughout the year.

The Buffalo Museum of Science is a popular science museum located near the Kensington Expressway. It is dedicated to the exploration of science, technology and astronomy. Situated in a historic building in Buffalo’s downtown district, the museum is

home to a variety of exhibitions that cover subject matter such as astronomy, geology, biology and space technology.

The area's magnet school system attracts students with special interests such as science and bilingual studies, while nearby school districts (Williamsville Central, Starpoint Central, Clarence Central, Grand Island, Lewiston, etc.) provide an additional selection of esteemed schools to choose from. The State University of New York (SUNY) operates three institutions within the city of Buffalo. The State University of New York at Buffalo (simply known as "Buffalo" or "UB") is the largest public university in New York and a nationally ranked tier 1 research university. Many other renowned institutions can be found in the area, including Canisius College, Niagara University and D'Youville College.
