When you receive a new box of fiber, run all your fiber through a leaf mulcher/shredder. You can find a leaf mulcher/shredder at Home Depot for about $60.00. These are the models that contain a metal impeller and have a leaf shredding feature. When you get a box of fiber, just get some large body bags or pillow cases from Wal-Mart. Attach the body bag with a bungie cord or hold by hand where the bag output is on the machine. Then, turn on the machine and put small handfuls of fiber into the intake vacuum (as you would if you were sucking up leaves). Be sure to just put handfuls of fiber into the chamber. If you put too much in at once you can actually plug the impeller! Then, when completed, you will have filled up 6 or more body bags with one box! This method blows the fiber up about 2 to 3 times! It makes the bears super soft and 1 box goes 2 to 3 times farther, saving you BIG on operating costs!

for doing this!

Why should you Mulch your incoming fiber?

Fiber comes compressed (tightly inter-woven and compacted) when shipped in either bales or boxes to our wholesale customers. This is done primarily to save on the cubed volume size required to ship out to customers, reducing both the size of box required and the quantity of boxes resulting in reduced shipping and transport costs. Therefore, upon receipt, your fiber will be very ‘clumpy’ and the strands will be woven together.

What are the benefits when I Mulch my fiber?

Most importantly, you will be able to stuff 2 to 3 times as many bears than you would if you do not mulch your fiber. Mulching your fiber expands and unwinds the polyester strands which results in lighter, softer bears. Customers prefer soft bears and your machine will also have less pressure and wear on its paddles using mulched fiber. Your pocketbook will also be happy as you can stuff twice as many bears with the same box!

So, how do I Mulch my fiber?

When you receive a new box of fiber, run all your fiber through a leaf mulcher/shredder. You can find a leaf mulcher/shredder at Home Depot for about $60.00. These are the models that contain a metal impeller and have a leaf shredding feature. Some of the machines are leaf blowers and catchers only, so be sure and find the one with the 3rd option, which is the mulching/shredding feature.
