Tawam hospital has financed and constructedone Reverse osmosis plant for CSSD toprovide RO water for all washer disinfectors

and steam sterilizers .

This removes silicates ,iron, chlorides andminerals from the water which prevent anybuild up of sediments in steam generators andwasher disinfectors heating elements.

Following renovation:

Double Door BWDs x 2, 350 liter chamber volumewith incorporated drying cycle.

Two washing cycles

Dedicated R/O plant for BWDs and steam sterilizers

Improvements:

Loading, no unloading required

One way flow

Less time spent walking back and forth

Risk for recontamination of instruments eliminated.

BWD time: One hour

Loading/unloading/time in BWD; 10 minutes.

Total time: 1 hour 10 minutes.

IMPROVEMENTS / OUTCOME: Reprocessing 15 to 20% more instrument sets for the O.R, within the same timeframe as previously

Cleaner instruments, 2 wash cycles in R/O water.

Risk for recontamination of instruments eliminated as they are not returned back

into the decontamination room

Because of saving time, not performing previously unnecessary tasks,

assignments can be made more specific, one staff assigned for the setting and a

second for the checking of instrument sets.

Staff responsible for loading and unloading sterilizers as well as processdocumentation and statistics.
