On October 19th, the Fall Festival took place at Chesterbrook Academy. There

were many attractions at the Fall Festival. There was a moon bounce, raffles, music,

games, and food. Another one of the main attractions was the Haunted House. The

haunted house left the guests screaming and trembling in fear.

The tour guide sent groups of 5 to 6 people through the hallway of spiders,

into the dungeon. Inside the dungeon there were many victims of a murderer. There

were found on the floor, walls and even the ceiling! The guests soon found that the

murder was chopping up some meat. The murderer soon showed his face, leaving the

guests screaming. A bloody hand revealed itself and sent the guests running away out

of the dungeon.

This year’s Fall Festival at Chesterbrook Academy was a huge hit. Many of

the kids and their parents enjoyed everything that was there. The haunted house was

probably the biggest hit of the day. At one point there was a huge line that people had

to wait in. Many kids went again and again. They must’ve really liked it.

Spooktacular Halloween

Halloween Showcase On October 31st, also known as Hal-

loween, Chesterbrook Academy held its sixth

annual Halloween Showcase. The students

did a wonderful job performing their as-

signed songs. It was really nice to see stu-

dents in so many different, colorful, and in-

teresting costumes.

Many parents came to the Hallow-

een Showcase. I think that all the songs were

received with equal enthusiasm. Marissa said

that her favorite song was This is Halloween

preformed by Ms. Agresta’s Kindergarten

class. Adam’s favorite song was Spooky

Spooky performed by Ms. Clay’s first grade

class.

Trunk or Treat After our annual Halloween

Showcase, we let the kids trick or treat at

the school, or how we call it trunk or treat.

So basically we requested the parent vol-

unteers to decorate and fill the trunks of

their car with candy and spooky decora-

tions. The students had a blast while they

were trunk or treating. We think that we’re

speaking for everyone when we say that

we liked the trunk or treating the best.

The physical educa-tion teacher at Chesterbrook Academy is Coach Curt. He teaches a vari-ety of sports. He also lets us play them for enter-tainment. In

class students stretch and play games. He is an amaz-ing coach; he lets us have an exciting P.E class, all the way from soccer to football and basketball. It is an interesting class, and it is very popular among the stu-dent body.

Today we played kickball, it was 2-8. The game was five innings. It was a lot of fun! If you hit the ceiling it would be three outs and you can catch balls if they haven’t hit the ground yet for an out. There were a lot of outs and a lot of big kicks and home runs; it was a very interesting and energizing game.

Hockey can be played on the road, ice and even in grass. You can also play hockey on roller blades in an indoor arena. Hockey is watched by thou-sands of people. It has a lot of action, with fights and the puck going from one side to the other in a few seconds.

The whole game is fast pace; the players can get from one side to the other while controlling a puck very fast. One of the most famous hockey players is Alex Ovechkin, he plays for the capitals and he is number eight. In the Eastern conference the Lightning, from Tampa Bay, is winning in the Atlantic District, and in the Metropolitan District the Penguins, from Pitts-burgh, are winning. Lighting has a record of 12 to 5, 12 wins and five losses. The penguins have a record of 11 to 6, 11 wins and six losses. Mr. Mendoza, a teacher at Chesterbrook Academy plays hockey. We asked him about his ex-perience. The thing that got him interested in hockey was the movie The Mighty Ducks. He has been play-ing hockey since he was two years old. His favorite team in the NHL, National Hockey League, is the Washington Capitals from Washington, D.C. He plays for the Potomac Patriots and they are second in the league with a record of eight wins and five losses.

-Matthew Cerniglia We had a great Halloween this year here at Chester-

brook Academy. We saw students wearing many dif-

ferent colorful costumes going to the trunks of the

parents’ cars to collect candy. Some kids made their

costumes such as Tyler Sabet. Other kids bought their

costumes such as Ishan Akhouri and Gavin Flanagan.

My friend Adam Mohamed and I took a survey on the

most popular category of costumes worn in the entire school.

We found out that the most common costume

category was the superhero costume category. The

least common costume was the Disney character cos-

tume. Below is the information we gathered during

our survey.

A Wrinkle in Time…….

A Wrinkle in time is a book written by Madeleine L’Engle. This book has an

entire series, a great one too! Disney even made a movie on A Wrinkle in Time but it

was not that good in my opinion. This book was first published in 1962. The main

character in this book is Meg Murry. The way L’Engle explains Meg, is that she is a

smart, clever and willing to try everything. The main supporting characters in this

book are Charles Wallace Murry, Meg’s genius brother who can sometimes read

Meg’s mind! Then there is Calvin O’Keefe, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which and Meg’s missing Dad…

The way L’Engle kicks off the book is by saying “It was a dark and stormy night.” Meg could not sleep

that night because of how stormy it was that night. So she went down stairs to get a cup of milk and a cookie, typi-

cal. As she went she found Charles Wallace who knew she could not sleep. Then the door slams open, by then I

would have bolted if I was Meg. Then out of the dark approaches an old lady. Then Meg started asking who she

was. The old lady says, “I’m Mrs. Who.” Mrs. Who explains her reasoning for wounding up there. She says that it

was a very stormy night and she was just walking around and then it just started raining on her. A while later she

tells Meg and Charles Wallace to go with her. Of course Meg did because that’s how she was. This was my favor-

ite part because this is when the adventure starts. I think up to this point the book was not doing very good. After that point it becomes a really good book.

The folklore in this book is very good. There are unicorns, fairies and all of the fantasy creatures you can

think of. If you don’t have a good imagination then this book is not the one for you. It can get very confusing at

some points, mostly near the end. Overall I think this is a very good book and I would recommend it from ages 8-

12. This book is a wild one so you need to be able to focus well to read this. If you asked me how was A Wrinkle

in Time? I would say “I loved this book very much.”

The Hunger Games The Hunger Games came out in theaters everywhere on

March 23, 2012. This was a much anticipated movie

because everyone was reading the books and everyone

was getting hooked on it and they couldn’t wait to see

the movie. Many people waited in line for hours to see

the world premiere.

The movie had a very remarkable storyline. The story

is about a girl who is entered into the hunger games.

Her name is Katniss Everdeen. She is trained for the

hunger games and her best weapon is the bow. Since

she is from District 12 (the worst out of all 12 districts),

not many people think she will win. Peeta (a boy from District 12) was also entered and they want to

team up to try and win together. The hunger games become very crazy and they make many enemies

along the way but, they also make alliances. Now they must fight their worst enemy, Cato, to try and

win…

The movie was about two hours long. There were some very fascinating parts in it that made

everyone want to know what happened next. The ending was really interesting too. However, this movie is PG 13 and is suited for mature viewers. We really liked this movie because it had a lot of

action in it and that made us want to keep watching. The movie was very intense and it kept you on

your seat the whole time. The sequel to this movie will be coming out on November 23. The movie is

called Catching Fire. Many people are excited for this movie as well and can’t wait for it to come out.

Mario Kart Wii (MKWii) was released in stores for the Nintendo Wii in April 2008. This game be-

came very popular very quickly because it was one of the first Wii games to come out. This was the very first

Mario Kart title that included motorcycles where you can do wheelies to go faster. This was also the first

Mario Kart title to include tricks to give you a speed boost when you perform them. MKWii also included the

first online multiplayer with up to twelve people and the online also included a point system.

The single player is very good with great new courses to play on and also some courses from past

Mario Kart titles. The game has four speed difficulties with the CPU's getting harder to beat each time. There

is 50cc which is the easiest and slowest. 100cc is normal difficulty and it is a bit faster. 150cc is one of the

most difficult with your speed greatly increased and the CPU's much harder than before. People do complain

about the CPU's cheating and stealing your victory but all you have to do is try your best and eventually, you

will be able to beat them with ease. Then, there is the fourth and final difficulty called Mirror where all the

tracks that you have learned to play are flipped in its mirror version. You still have the same speed as 150cc

and the CPU's are at the same difficulty, but the test is to try to do the tracks flipped. If you get first place in

your Grand Prix (four courses the make a cup), you will get a chance of getting a new character, kart, or bike

depending on the rank that you get. The highest rank is three stars then two and one, then it goes down form

A through F.

In single player mode, there is also something called Time Trials, which is a great way to test your

skills and that is one of the best features the game has to offer. There is also VS mode where you just face the

CPU's on the tracks of you choosing. MKWii also has a Battle Mode where you fight against CPU's in battle

trying to collect coins and hit them with items. That is also one of the best things MKWii has to offer. This

game also has Multiplayer where you can play with your friends and family at home on one screen split into

four sections.

The best thing that MKWii has to offer is the Online Multiplayer. This feature is where you can play

up to twelve people in races or battles. Racing is much more popular though. You have the choice of doing a

worldwide race where you can race people from another country. You can also do a regional race where you

race people in your country or sometimes the country next to yours. There is some problems with the online

where people "lag" and they aren't really there. This can be a big problem for some experienced racers who

try to knock people off the side or try to "snipe" them with an item to make them spin out and slow down. It

isn't that big of a deal though so many people just ignore it and go on with their race. You can also play

online with one other person in your house. the screen would split into two sections and you two could work

together to win the race. You can also trade Friend Codes where you can play with your friend who is some-

where else and play online with them. You can have up to thirty friends on your friend list. Mario Kart Wii is

probably the best racing game in the Mario Kart franchise and I would have to give it a 9.5/10.

A Different Century

I woke up one morning feel-

ing very tired. I got out of bed and took

some “Non-drowsy” medicine so I

could have an energetic day. I immedi-

ately woke up not feeling tired at all.

Today is November 6, 2113! I am

ready to have a great day! I asked my

robot, Greg if he would make me some

breakfast while I got ready for work.

Greg happily strolled of and prepared

my breakfast. I went to my room and

got my clothes on magnetically, along with robotic hair straightener so I did-

n’t have to do anything. I remember

about a century ago when I had to

straighten my own hair, which took

almost an hour and I even remember

making my own breakfast! I miss be-

ing independent but it’s always good to

have someone help you out. The tech-

nology has changed tremendously

since those days. We have many new

objects that help in our daily lives.

I finished my breakfast and

went to the Teleportation Machine.

The machine transferred me all the

way to work! If I were to drive all the

way from California to New York it

would take me very long! Even with

my flying car I would still be very late!

About a century ago we didn’t even

have flying cars and we had to drive

them ourselves. That would be too much effort for me. I was glad that I

had all this new technology and em-

braced it. I arrived at work within a

few seconds.

After my work ended, I enter

my teleportation machine and go home.

My husband had taken a nap on the

floor. He must be very tired. I sent

over the flying bed, it picked him up

and took him back to the bedroom. I

call for Greg but then I realized how

much I missed our past. Ho we did

everything ourselves and how life was

actually a challenge. I dismiss Greg

and make dinner all by myself. I wash

the dishes and do the laundry without

Greg’s assistance. Finally, to end my day I prepare for bed, myself.
