CAUTION: In order to ensure the accuracy of torque and speed, it is recommended thatcalibration be performed for each change of handpiece used for torque controlledoperations, or daily if the same handpiece is used.

WARNING: Always comply with the endodontic handpiece and file manufacturer’s instructionsregarding maximum speeds, torques, forward and reverse directions, and use of allinstrumentation, drills, burs, etc., used in endodontic applications.

CAUTION: Connect mains power cable to a properly grounded outlet only.

WARNING: Do not disassemble or alter the AE-250-30 micromotor, console, or foot switch.

CAUTION: Use only appliance cord Type C13,10A per IEC / EN 60320-1. Note: North America,Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand may require hospital grade plugs. Consultlocal codes.

WARNING: Never use damaged or worn files as they may separate in the root canal.

WARNING: Do not use this device in conjunction with an electric scalpel or on patients withpacemakers.

CAUTION: It is recommended to always have the patient wear a rubber dam during endodonticprocedures.

WARNING: Always use irrigating coolant when using high-speed handpieces.

CAUTION: The AE-250-30 micromotor is sensitive to damage if dropped or impacted against ahard surface.

SETTING UP THE UNIT:1. Unpack the Console and accessories (see

Figure 1).

2. Install the Motor Cradle: The autoclavableMotor Cradle can be attached to either sideof the Console or placed flat on anyadjacent tabletop surface or tray. Install theCradle by mounting the Cradle Bracketonto the bottom of the Chassis with the twoscrews provided (see Figure 2). Align theslot on the bottom of the Cradle with themounting rail on the Bracket and snap intoplace.

3. Attach the supplied foot control to theconnector on the back of unit marked"Footswitch" (see Figure 3). The cordconnector and receptacle are keyed toengage one another. Insert, then turn thelocking nut clockwise to secure.

4. Attach the remote power cord to the backof the console (see Figure 3) and plug intoa hospital-grade grounded electrical

receptacle. Confirm that the type of cordplug cap is correct for the country of usageand carries the proper certificationmarkings.

5. Connect the Motor/Cord Assembly to theMotor Receptacle on the lower right front ofthe console (see Figure 1).

6. Attach the appropriate "E-Type" handpieceto the motor as shown in Figure 4.

After the unit has been set up, you are readyfor quick start operation as follows:

1. Turn the Power Switch on the rear panel ofthe console from the 'OFF' (O) to the'ON' ( ) position. The Console Display willturn on. An introduction will scroll across thescreen then briefly display the softwareversion installed:

Ver. Date (Mo/Day/Yr)The AEU-27A is programmed at the factoryto initially start up with File Series S1 active.Subsequently, when the power is turned on,the last used settings will be active.

2. Insert an endodontic rotary file into thehandpiece.

3. Press and release the Ratiobutton once to display thecurrently selected handpiece/ratio, then continue to press andrelease the RATIO button to cycle throughand select the other available handpiece/ratio options. (The default ratio setting is 8:1reduction.)

4. Use the Calibration function tocalibrate the handpiece for theAEU-27A. Before calibrating,ensure that the correct handpieceratio is selected. Press and release the CALbutton.

The following prompt will display:

The unit will run for approximately 30seconds, measuring the handpiece for anaccurate display of speed and torquevalues.

CAUTION - Before calibration, ensure thata file or bit is secured in the handpiece.

NOTE: Pressing, holding, then releasingthe CAL button will enable the system’sadvanced setup options menu. Refer to theAdvanced Operation section for completeinstructions.

If calibration is successful, the followingprompt will appear then the unit will returnto the last settings used:

If calibration fails, the following prompt willappear advising the user to press the CALbutton to escape out of the test and thencheck the motor/handpiece for problems:

5. Select the File Series corresponding to theendodontic rotary file you are using bypressing the SERIES Left/Right arrowbuttons. The default File Series are shownin Chart 1, page 8.

Pressing the FILE Up/Down arrow buttonswill cycle throughthe individual fileslisted under eachSeries name. (These Up/Down Arrowbuttons can also be used to navigate up ordown through the menu options.)

6. Press the foot pedal to activate motor andbegin operation. Note that the word “RUN”displays whenever the motor is activated.

7. After 15 minutes of inactivity (seeinstructions on page 18 to select desiredSleep Mode activation period), the AEU-27A will go into Sleep Mode to conservepower. To exit Sleep Mode and resumeoperation, press any keypad button or thefoot pedal.

1. Main Power Switch:Located on back of console (see Figure 3).Controls main power On/Off to the console.

2 Handpiece Ratio Selector:Allows user to select handpiece/ratio.The RATIO button can selecthandpieces/ratios in two differentways - refer to either A or Bbelow:

A. Press and release the Ratio button onceto display the currently selected handpiece/ratio, then continue to press and releasethe RATIO button to cycle through the otheravailable handpiece/ratio options. Theavailable handpiece ratios, speed, andtorque ranges for each option are shownbelow in Chart 2:

The unit will automatically activate thecurrently displayed option as the newhandpiece ratio. The selected ratio willdisplay as follows (example only):

Once a new handpiece/ratio has beenselected, the unit automatically entersMANUAL MODE and displays the new ratiowith the current RPM and torque settings(example below):

(Note: The speed, torque, andforward/reverse settings can also bechanged manually - refer to paragraphs 4- 8 on pages 11 & 12 for more informationon changing these settings.)

B. Press and hold the RATIObutton to display a list of all thehandpiece/ratio options. Then,use the FILE Up/Down arrowbuttons to point tothe desired optionand press theSELECT button.The availableoptions are 1:5,1:1, 8:1, 16:1, andCancel. Select “Cancel” to exit out of theselection menu. The following prompt willdisplay (example only):

Note: The ratio designations X:Y and Y/Xare equivalent; for example, 8:1 is a U.S.term and 1/8 is a European term.

3 CAL/SETUP Button:Activates the IntegratedCalibration Program andSystem Setup Menus.The CAL/SETUP button initiates twodifferent functions: System Calibration andSystem Setup - refer to A & B below:

A. System Calibration:CAUTION - Before calibration, ensure thata handpiece is attached to the motor, thecorrect handpiece ratio is selected, and afile or bit is secured in the handpiece.

4 SPEED ButtonsAllow user to select desiredspeed (RPM) formotor/handpiece.Press the SPEED SelectorUp/Down buttons to adjustspeed. The unit willautomatically enter MANUALmode and display the newRPM settings with the ratio and torque

settings (example only):

Note: For speed accuracy, the RatioSelector must match the ratio of thehandpiece being used.

Note: Speed ranges are accurate whenthe handpieces referenced on page 1 areused with the supplied 30K motor. Speedranges are shown in Chart 2, page 10.

5 Forward/Reverse (FWD/REV)Button:Sets the rotational direction ofthe motor/handpiece.Press and release FWD/REVbutton until the desired rotation isindicated: the green LED illuminates whenforward rotation is selected; the amberLED indicates reverse rotation. An audibletone will also indicate when reverserotation is activated. This reverse audibletone may be adjusted or turned off asdescribed in the Setup Options Section,page 17.

6 Torque Adjustment Buttons: Allow the user to adjust torque limits inGram•Centimeter increments.Press the TORQUE SelectorUp/Down buttons to adjusttorque. The unit willautomatically enter MANUALMODE and display the newTORQUE settings with theratio and speed settings(example only):

7 ASR/MAX Torque Button: Allows the user to select Auto-Stop-Reverse (ASR) orMaximum (MAX) torquemodes.A. ASR Mode - For 1:1, 8:1, or 16:1 ratiohandpieces only. Auto-Stop-Reverse (ASR)mode is indicated by the illuminated greenLED next to the button. Enable ASR modeand press the Torque Selector Up/Downbuttons until the desired auto-stop torquelimit is indicated on the Console Display.When the foot pedal is activated, therotation of the handpiece will automaticallyalternate between forward and reversewhenever the selected auto-stop limit isreached.Note: Other ASR configurations areavailable - see Global Options Section,page 16 for details. B. MAX Torque Mode - For 1:1, 8:1, or16:1 ratio handpieces only. MAX TorqueMode is indicated by the illuminated amberLED next to the button and a “MAX” g-cmvalue on the console display. This modeallows the motor to run at its maximumtorque level. After the user has become familiar with the system’s keypad functions, use either 1. ManualMode, or 2. Series Mode below to begin operation:

1. MANUAL MODE - At any time, the usercan use the control panel keypad to adjustthe ratio, speed, torque, and forward/reverse settings. When the ratio, speed, ortorque are changed manually, the Displaywill indicate Manual Mode, as shown below:

Note: To escape out of Manual Mode andswitch to the Series Mode, simply presseither of the two SERIES arrow buttons.

A. Saving Manual Settings: At any time,the user can save and store new ratio,speed, and torque settings into any one ofthe five different default Series. Followthese steps to save new Manual settings:1) Use the keypad buttons to change theratio, speed, or torque settings. TheDisplay will indicate Manual Mode.

2) Press and hold the EDIT button. Twobeeps will sound and then the followingSave Menu will display:

• 1 - 5: Selects the specific default Series(S1 through S5) that will be overwritten withthe new settings. A prompt will appear,asking for confirmation of the SeriesNumber (example below):

4) Move the selector-arrow to the desiredoption (see below) and then press theSELECT button.

• Yes: Saves the changes to the selectedSeries. The following menu will appear, withasterisks indicating the changed Series andFile Names in capital letters and the Filerenamed to “USER DEFINED FILE“(example below):

IMPORTANT: This “Yes” command willoverwrite the current settings in theselected Series. To restore the defaultSeries settings to this Series, either re-enter the previous settings manually orRecall the Factory Setup (see page 16).

• No: Returns to the previous “MANUAL”menu without saving any changes.

• Cancel: Returns to the previous“MANUAL” menu without saving anychanges.

2. SERIES MODE - By default, the unit willstart in this Series Mode. This Mode allowsthe user to quickly access up to fivedifferent Series (see Chart 1 on page 8 forthe default Series). These default Seriessettings can be customized by the user --refer to the Editing Series instructions onpage 20.

B. Auto Stop Rev. (Reverse): There arethree different Auto Stop modes to choosefrom. After pressing the SELECT button, thefollowing menu will display:

• Auto Reverse - When the Auto Reversemode is enabled, rotation of the handpiecewill automatically stop and reverse whenthe selected torque limit is reached. Whenmaintaining activation of the foot pedal, theSystem will automatically alternate betweenforward and reverse rotation in an attemptto free the instrument.When the Auto Reverse mode is selected,the unit automatically returns to the “SetupOptions” menu and displays “(AUTO)” atthe “Auto Stop Rev.” prompt. NOTE: “AutoStop Rev. (AUTO)” is the factory default.• Manual Reverse - When the ManualReverse mode is enabled, forward rotationof the handpiece will automatically stopwhen the selected torque limit is reached.Upon releasing and then reapplyingpressure to the foot pedal, the handpiecewill rotate in the reverse direction. If pressure is then reapplied to the footpedal, the handpiece will return to forwardrotation.When the Manual Reverse mode isselected, the menu automatically returns tothe “Setup Options” menu and displays“(MAN)” at the “Auto Stop Rev.” prompt asshown below:

Sleep Mode: The user can instruct theunit to automatically enable a Sleep Modeafter 15 or 30 minutes of inactivity, toconserve power. In Sleep Mode, theDisplay will turn off and the two greenLEDs next to the FWD/REV and ASR/MAXbuttons will continuously blink in analternating pattern. b) Press Speed Or Torque Buttons ToChange: This prompt gives the user onemore opportunity to change the Speed andTorque settings before saving them underthe new FILE name. c) SELECT To Save: After you have editedthe File Name and adjusted the Speed andTorque settings in the steps above, you cansave your new settings by pressing theSELECT button. The following Menu willappear:

The AEU-27A has the ability to loadsoftware updates and enhance thefunctionality of the system, should this bedesired. A card slot, labeled “Memory CardPort”, is provided on the back of the unit(see Figure 7). This Port accepts memorycards, P/N: MC-27A, that are very similarto those used in common consumerdevices. These cards, available fromAseptico, enable a user to update softwareor replace existing software that mighthave been accidentally erased orcorrupted. Contact Aseptico for moreinformation on card usage and availability.To reprogram an AEU-27A unit, follow theSteps below:

Programming Steps:1. Turn ‘Off’ the Main Power Switch on the

back panel.

2. Grasp the right-hand end of the rubberdust cover for the Memory Card Port andpry open the cover to expose the card slot.

3. Insert the new memory card in the slot withlabel facing upward (card terminals shouldface downward). Carefully and slowly presscard inward until a ‘click’ is felt, thenrelease card.

4. Turn the Main Power Switch (on the backpanel) ‘On’.

5. The AEU-27A Display will show thefollowing message:

• Press the RATIO key on the Control Panel.

6. The Display will show the following message:

• Press the RATIO key on the Control Panel.

7. The Display will show the following message:

• A status bar will indicate the progress ofthe programming.

8. When the programming is complete, theDisplay will show the following message:

• Press the card inward slightly, thenrelease it to eject it. When the card isejected, the AEU-27A System will resetwith normal power-up screen displayed.

9. Remove the memory card and store it in asafe place. Close the rubber dust cover onthe Memory Card Port.In the event that the programmingprocedure is interrupted, the unit willdisplay the following message:

HANDPIECES - Thorough cleaning and lubrica-tion of handpieces after each use and beforesterilization is very important to ensure properoperation and service life of the handpiece.Follow the instructions provided with the hand-piece for complete maintenance instructions.

IMPORTANT Protect motorfrom excess oil draining fromhandpiece. After lubricating andbefore autoclaving, stand hand-piece by its base on a papertowel and allow excess oil todrain (see Figure 8).

MOTOR & CORD ASSEMBLY - The entire AE-250-30 micromotor and cord assembly isfully autoclavable. Before autoclaving theassembly, remove the handpiece from motorand install autoclaving cap into end of the motorcord connector as shown in Figure 9. The cap issupplied with the cord.

STERILIZATION PROCEDURE:WARNING - Sterilize the motorbetween each patient use.WARNING - Use of a sterilizationmethod or temperatures other thanwhat are prescribed may damage themotor or present a risk of cross-contamination between patients.CAUTION - Do not soak or submergethe motor in any liquid.

Aseptico warrants its products against defects in material or workmanship for a period oftwo (2) years, from date of original invoice. Some handpieces are warranted for one yearunder the same conditions. Other handpieces and expendable components, such as airturbines and light bulbs, are covered by shorter warranty periods, or have no warranty.Aseptico's sole obligation under product warranty is (at its sole option and discretion) torepair or replace any defective component or product in part or whole. Aseptico shall bethe sole arbiter of such action.

In the event of alleged defect under warranty, the purchaser is to notify Aseptico'sCustomer Service Department promptly. Customer Service will provide instructions,usually directing that the product be returned for service. Shipment to Aseptico and thecost thereof is always the responsibility of the purchaser.

Accidental misuse, inappropriate installation, or failure to perform directed maintenancevoids the warranty. Deliberately defacing, modifying, or removing the serial number voidsthe warranty.

Aseptico does not assume, under this warranty, any risks or liabilities arising from theclinical use of its products, whether or not such use involves coincidental utilization ofproducts manufactured by others.
