STYLEAll three slasher films are written in capital letters and a very bold

font is used. Capital letters are used to denote a louder , almost shouting pronunciation. They are mainly used as a font for opening sequences and there tends to be a lot of screaming/shouting in this genre of film.

Although all three of the films are written in a bold text, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and scream seem to have a more gothic style font, where as maniac is written in more of a larger bold text.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 , scream and maniac are all displayed in a red coloured text. Texas chainsaw massacre 2 and maniac immediately appear in a red coloured text , whereas screams opening title appears white with a white halo around it and then eventually turns into a red text, the white text is signifying purity and the transition into a red text is connoting blood and death and is also foreshadowing the opening sequence of the film.

The colour red is used is strongly used in slasher films as it connotes death and blood which are strong elements of this genre of film.

ORDERINGOpening title sequences usually appear at the very beginning of the

opening scene. The opening title sequence usually appears within the first 5-6minutes of a film.

The opening of Texas chainsaw massacre 2 and screams opening title sequence both appear within the first minute of the opening scene, whereas maniacs opening title sequence is presented after the first 6 minutes of the film. The ordering varies depending on the director. Some directors prefer to give their audience a little scenario to watch during the first 5-6 minutes so they are engaged in the film, others prefer to place the title sequence at the very start of the film.

DISPLAYINGMany films decide to display there opening title sequence over a black

backdrop because its easy to read. Both Texas chainsaw massacre 2 and screams opening are presented against a black backdrop. The use of a black backdrop signifies the key theme of death and darkness, which are key themes in this genre of film.

The opening title sequence for maniac is displayed over footage. This technique has been used so that the audience are eager to see what’s going on behind the text and also creates an unsettling atmosphere.

BIRDCALL OPENING TITLEThe colours we incorporated into our Slasher title

contain red and black are stereotypical colours of our genre as they connote darkness and blood. This colour scheme is very similar to the previous titles I have analyzed as the title is also placed infront of a black background. The ordering of our title sequence can be compared the the film Maniac as it also appears after a scenario to engage the audience and also leave them in suspense. We named the our film ‘Birdcall’ as it is significant to our film due to the sinister sound of the birdcall towards the end of our opening sequence.
