Open Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail Reports in TXT Format and Convert Them to Excel

If you choose to have the industry-standard Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail report sent to your Report Inbox in comma-separated values without headers (TXT) format, you can convert the report and open it in Microsoft Excel 2010 using the report's header row spreadsheet. This spreadsheet, available on Support Central, has the column headers for each of the report's data elements so you can easily use the data.

1. Save a copy of the Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail report.

a. Access and log into the Financial Aid Professionals portal on the Great Lakes website (https://schools.mygreatlakes.org).

b. Select My Tools > Reports to open your Report Inbox.

c. Find the report.

d. Right-click the report and select Save Target As from the menu that displays.

e. Save the report in a convenient location (e.g., your desktop).

2. Open the Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail Report Header Row spreadsheet, which contains the column headers for each of the report's data elements, on Support Central.

a. Select Support Central > Default Management Support from the horizontal menu on the Great Lakes website to open Support Central's Default Management Support page.

b. Expand the Reports and Data section, and then expand the Overview subsection.

c. In the description for Learn About the Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail Report, click Sample File and Header Row Spreadsheet.

d. Click Open to open a window containing the report's sample file and header row spreadsheet.

e. Open the Service Provider Loan Portfolio Detail Report Header Row spreadsheet.

3. Select the Data tab in the horizontal menu.

4. Click From Text in the Get External Data section to open the Import Text File dialog box.

5. Browse to the location where you saved the report.

6. Select the report, and then click Import to open the Text Import wizard.

7. In the Original Data Type section, make sure Delimited is selected.

8. Click Next to go to the next step.

9. In the Delimiters section, clear Tab, and then select Comma.

10. Click Next to go to the next step.

11. In the Data Preview section, do the following.

a. Select the first column.

b. Press and hold SHIFT, and then scroll to the right and select the last column.

12. In the Column Data Format section, select Text.

13. Click Finish to open the Import Data dialog box.

14. With the Import Data dialog box open, select cell A2 in the spreadsheet.

Note: Selecting the cell in the spreadsheet automatically populates the field for the Existing Worksheet option in the dialog box, and indicates where to begin importing the data in the spreadsheet.

15. Click OK in the Import Data dialog box.
