HOW IT WORKSThis passport is your ticket to discovering the 29 farms and 3 farmers’ markets participating in the 8th Annual Open Farm Day, brought to you by the Agriculture
Economic Development Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County.
On Saturday, July 25th from 10 am to 4 pm we invite you to visit the farms listed in this
passport and explore Madison County’s fantastic array of local agricultural enterprises.
All you need is an Open Farm Day passport and a cooler to bring home tasty local foods!
This passport is divided into four regions with numbered stops to clearly indicate the
location of Open Farm Day participants. A detailed Madison County highway map will be
available at each stop. Open Farm Day stops can also be viewed on our mobile-enabled
website at OpenFarmDayMadisonCounty.com. For your convenience, “Open Farm DayStop” signs will be posted at each location for easier navigation.
Farms offer a variety of activities such as tours, rides, free samples, and animal interaction!
To help plan your day, please read farm descriptions. You may use the symbols at the
bottom of this page as a guide to know what unique offerings each farm has as well.
When visiting a passport destination, present your stamp card on page 2 to receive a
stamp or sticker. Collecting three or more stamps and filling out the visitors’ survey on
page 4 will earn you this year’s prize – an insulated shopping tote! To collect your prize,
simply show the farm your three stamps and turn in your completed survey. Prizes are
available while supplies last, to ensure supply we ask that each family take only one prize.
For more information on Open Farm Day and passport availability please visit:

include several versions of soft
cheeses, feta, marinated feta, and
a variety of cheese curds. We will

we are busy producing cheeses,
attending farmers markets and
caring for our goats. We welcome
visitors to our farm to enjoy our goats, visit our cheese room and experience fresh

RootsIn 2012, Price Chopper celebrated its 80th anniversary.Immigrant Lewis Golub started with a lunch counter and dairy
store in Schenectady, NY, and then a wholesale grocerywarehouse, with sons Ben and Bill working alongside him. After visiting a retail grocery company in Long Island, theybraved the challenging economy of the early 1930’s toopen their own retail grocery store, with food and drygoods under one roof. They continually brought innovativeideas to market, including the “Grower Producer”programs that encouraged local farmers by offering tobuy the best of their crop, and the Empire State Red Labelprogram that established the egg industry in New YorkState. Price Chopper has been woven into the fabric of thefood and agriculture industries in New York State, andcontinues to grow our farming community in many ways.
Family Mealtimes MatterFamily Mealtimes Matter started in 2009 as acollaboration between Cornell CooperativeExtension of the Capital Region and PriceChopper. We develop educational materials, an
outreach campaign, recipes and fun ways to helpfamilies enjoy meal and snack time together. In 2011,we added a new partner, Eat Smart New York, nutrition educators for SNAP nutritionassistance,to our efforts. Families that eat together eat better!
