Hi from Anne and Mel,

Hope you are keeping well on these very chilly mornings and keeping warm. As usual we have been busy. We had a new entertainer Michael Garner performing for us at Dianella which was enjoyed by all that attended.

We held an Elder Abuse Awareness Day morning tea with guest speakers from Victoria Police.

At our Friday Forum we had a couple of complaints about tea spoons being up handle down and now has been rectified handles are to be upwards. A complaint of cold plates at meals, staff will try and do their best to turn oven on for warm plates. Residents are enjoying custard on their desserts.

Keep warm!

Dianella Doings

It’s been a busy month indeed

Vision Australia visited with a display of assistive devices to assist the vision impaired that could be purchased by interested residents. June Coppin’s 80th Birthday celebration afternoon tea shared with residents and family. Dianella residents visited with students of Beveridge primary school, a rather special morning with interaction, questions and a lovely morning tea served.

Wow the cold weather has really hit Kilmore- I hope you are keeping warm! We have been donated plenty of rugs and we thank all those responsible for these. Residents have been making decorations for our Winter Wonderland Christmas in July. We hope you can join us, the cost for guests is $20 per head. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Our volunteers do an amazing job and we will be holding a special luncheon in August to show our appreciation.

At our service for our residents that have passed away families will be given a CD of photos instead of a memorial photo book, so the families can print as many copies as they like.

Take Care, Tracey.

We were fortunate enough to have the Victoria Police give a presentation on Elder Abuse at a morning tea on 12 June.We also held a Pink day for our Mother’s day celebration, which was a bit of fun for residents.

Families and friends are encouraged to join residents at mealtimes.

Sharing a meal time together is a time honoured tradition of family life and you are very welcome to continue this at Caladenia and Dianella.

To ensure availability, you are asked to ring prior to 10am to order a meal.

Join us in the dining room or arrange to use the more private areas to chat and eat.

We encourage an “open door” approach which invites residents to share their concerns with staff. Many people feel uncomfortable about doing this and fear negative consequences of raising issues.

However, residents and relatives can be assured that we see complaints or negative feedback as an opportunity to improve the care and services provided. Complaints do not have to be in writing.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, or aren’t happy with the response you can contact the Aged Care Complaints Scheme directly on 1800 550 552

If you have been visiting Dianella or Caladenia could you please make sure the doors click back into the locked position when you leave.

Almost everyone loves animals and our residents are no exception. Being able to hold, pat and even observe a pet can be very enjoyable and relaxing. If you have a clean and well behaved pet and an occasional hour to spare, we would welcome a visit.

However for the safety and wellbeing of everyone here are some guidelines which need to be followed. 1. Check with staff prior to bringing in your pet.

2. Pets must be kept on leash and under the control of their handler.

3. Pets must be clean, dry, vaccinations up to date.

4. Ensure your pet has food and water during their stay if required. Please clean up after your pet.

5. Pets must not be in the dining areas. Pets are not to go into a resident’s room without consent.

6. All residents are asked to wash their hands after contact with any animals.

Your pet will need to be on a leash and it is also important that they do not jump up on residents, as the skin of older persons can be fragile.

If you are interested speak to a staff member who will discuss it with you further.

There is a small cost associated with the meal:

As the financial administration of meals is managed directly by the hospital, meals ordered by family members will be costed on the day and sent to finance for processing. Payment on day would be appreciated with correct money, thank you for help in this matter.
