Introduction

It is located in the midst of four high hills- Doddabetta, Snowdon, Elk hill and Club Hill in Tamil Nadu state.

Original name was Udhagamandalam ruled by Vishnu Vardhana (1104-1141) AD.It came under the rule of the British East India Company in 1799 AD. John Sullivan started the development of the hill station.

What to see ?Botanical Garden: Spread over 22 hectares ascending the slopes on the hill, house

a variety of flowering bushes, myriad rare species

of plants and ferns old fossilized tree.

Rose Garden: On the Northwestern lower slopes of the Elk Hill, Sprawling over an area of 4 hectares in five terraces, the garden houses 20,000 rose plants with 2241

varieties.

Ooty Lake: It is an artificial lake

constructed by John Sullivan.

collections of contemporary paintings, items of tribal objects,

representative sculptural arts and crafts of

Tamilnadu. Doddabetta Peak: Nearly 10kms from Ooty, this is the highest peak

(2634 m.) in the Nilgiris. Panoramic view

of the entire district.

Kalhatty Waterfalls: Plunging down from a

height of 100feet on the slopes of Kalhatty

slopes, the waterfall is a breathtaking sight.

By Air :--The nearest airport is at a distance of about 88kms ,located in Coimbatore .

By Rail :--The Ooty railway station is merely 2kms from the City Center and the other railway station is 46km away at Mettupalayam.

By Road :-- The state has many highways that connect distant places and make traveling much easier.
